Couldn’t go to the State Fair of Texas without a visit to my favorite @fiestaconcessions !

Highlights from the visit for me was their Nashville Chicken Slider, Mangonada Soft Serve Margarita and Fried Thanksgiving dinner.

Our @statefairoftx food crawl
🤠🎡

Fun fact: @fiestaconcessions is a true fair family story. Back in 1977, Rudy Martinez & a friend set up shop at the fair with zero vending experience, and today the family runs four concession stands on the fairgrounds. Their Fried Thanksgiving Dinner even took home Most Creative at the 2013 Big Tex Choice Awards.

We stopped by to work our way through the lineup, including a few from their sister spot Granny’s. Here is what we tried:

FROM TRIO CRAFT
Slider Trio
Dill Ranch Pickle Fries
Frozen drink served in an inflatable pouch, a whole fair moment on its own

FROM GRANNY’S (their sister location)
Korean BBQ Chick-N-Funnel
Double Chocolate Oreo Funnel Cake
Clusters Limonata Fresca Float, a 2026 Big Tex Choice Awards sipper semi-finalist with sparkling limonata, watermelon puree, and Italian lemon sorbet

💡 Food Nerd Tip: The fair runs through October 18th, so map your food crawl before you go!

Some vendors say the second weekend of the State Fair of Texas is when the fair actually begins. But on the second Saturday of this year’s fair, the grounds were sparse.

There were no long queues for funnel cakes, and the walkways were easy to navigate, though muddy in spots. Small groups dotted the grounds, escaping the rain under umbrellas and ponchos.

Inside the food courts, however, tables were crowded as fairgoers escaped the rain.

We spoke to some concessionnaires about how inclement weather during the first week of the fair has impacted their business.

We’ve tried 50+ fair foods (probably closer to 70 at this point!) valued at over $500 at the @statefairoftx so far 🤠

We’re testing them out as your human guinea pigs (& gotten in hundreds of thousands of steps) so you don’t have to! There are 3 of us, and while we definitely tried plenty of 1-star duds, these are our absolute top 10—the ones all three of us agreed are the very best of the best and actually worth your coupons 🎟️🔥 our 9/10, 10/10 & off the charts recs.

The craziest part is, we still have many more to try! What’s your all-time favorite fair food?
