home for thanksgiving, what a bittersweet feeling. this should probably be a spam post because none of these pictures are typically deemed “insta-worthy”, but i wanted to remember this.

there was a time i wanted nothing more than to go to college and be away. away from what? i’m not sure. high school, the familiarity of minnesota, responsibilities of home? who knows. but when i finally got that it was overwhelming and home seemed like a distant memory. my family moved, my dogs passed, people kept living their lives and i felt lost, all alone in a new city. i’d give anything to be back to what i wanted to escape from.

fast forward to break, my first time being home since leaving, i did all i could in the span of 4 days. mostly the things that made me feel little again. my friends and family don’t know how much it meant to me. making slime, setting up the christmas tree, baking at grandma and grandpa’s, driving through the streets of mounds view, petting furry friends, etc. some things never change. while others did. my cousins think they’re too cool for me and “6,7” is the only word in their vocabulary. i had 4 different thanksgivings to go to, a little unconventional but we made it work. goodbyes felt more like a forever thing, rather than a “see you tomorrow”. i wasn’t sure how to feel.

but i’m on the plane now and i think this trip changed my brain chemistry a bit. i’m thankful for it all. to my family for pushing me to venture off into a new world. my friends for showing me unconditional love. the ebs and flows of growing up. it’s part of life. i think it’s time to truly live it.
