RISO NERDS THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!! -- TONIGHT!!----> via @filterphoto @there.there.now

[COLOR/SHIFT]
Travis Shaffer

Opening on October 16th, with a reception with the artist from 5 – 8 PM.

At the center of the exhibition are the ongoing Color Studies, made in collaboration with an international group of contemporary photographers. Each begins as a negotiation between photographer, image, paper, ink, and screening. Photographs are reconstructed in combinations of two to six spot colors, producing versions rather than reproductions.

Alongside these works, an accumulation of tests, proofs, charts, offprints, and research material exposes the otherwise invisible labor of that translation.

[color/shift] is ultimately aimed at photographic reproduction as an act of versioning. Against the frictionless circulation of digital images and the art world’s investment in authenticity, scarcity, and provenance, the project wagers instead on infidelity and slippage.

Shaffer is Associate Professor in the School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri, where [color/shift] was initiated.

Chicago, stacked.

A 90mm folds a whole city into one frame: the L rattling past, the towers piled up behind it, and one person at the railing with a coffee, watching the river instead of the train.

A Canadian-made Summicron from the early ‘90s on a 60-megapixel Leica. Old glass, new sensor.

Chicago, name the line.

Join MoCP, Filter Photo, Latitude Chicago, and other photography organizations for the Photography Guild at Arts in the Dark, Chicago’s annual Halloween parade celebrating the city’s vibrant arts and cultural community.

Photographers of all ages and experience levels are welcome to join the festivities. Just bring a camera of any kind and be part of the parade!

This event is free and open to all.

Artists, friends, patrons, and students transform into a group of mobile paparazzi, decorated with lights, to create suites of photographs from inside the parade and along the route engaging with the many spectators watching the artists' Halloween. Here are some photos from Arts in the Dark 2025 Digital Exhibition, to see more check out our digital exhibition page https://bit.ly/4i8FHi4

Today’s the last day to see @midwestlargeformatasylum “The Big Picture” at the @chicagoculturalcenter

It’s been a fun thing to be involved with. Got a big robot tintype (16x20) in the show. Got to make tintypes live on @wgnmorningnews with fast friend and colleague @tintypist_nelson and explore @centralcameraco and a “Vintage Photo” vendor downtown. Also got to stop into other @filterphoto events, running into an old friend from Dallas @prismafilmlab

In the end community was really the big picture. A chance to feel alive in a shared experience with like minded folk. Love to everyone, and to this city.
