If you have ever paddled a canoe, napped in a hammock, savored a barbecue, smoked tobacco or tracked a hurricane across Cuba, you have paid tribute to the Taino, the Native people who invented those words long before Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World in 1492. Today, October 12, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. Celebrated on the second Monday of the month of October in place of Columbus Day. Celebrating today means to take a moment to recognize the untaught history of Native Americans who were here long before any settler. We encourage you to take a moment today to read the history of Native American History. ❤️ May we continue to learn, respect, and uplift their voices ‼️ information cited from: historymadebyus history.com npr.org smithsonianmag.com wikipedia.org fimi-iiwf.org

On 11 September 2026, Grassroot in partnership with Terre De Homes ( TDH) and FIMI distributed raw materials and equipment to 28 women from Umlyngka, Nongrah, Lumparing and Nongmensong based on a needs assessment of their existing livelihood activities. The support, which included sewing machines, coffee machines and other equipment was intended to strengthen and enhance their existing income-generating activities, contributing to Grassroot’s mission of enhancing livelihoods. We wish the women the best in all their endeavours.
