SUPER honoured to be featured in our friends @edmundkboateng 1st issue of his magazine KBANA ZINE. Found at @findart.gallery. As you guys know, I’ve never done any prints. And this is the best way to more or less have a print of mine by showing us some support. The 5 photos in the magazine are easily some of my top favorite images. Seeing the broken negative with the broken man in print is kinda cold 🥶😍. This is inspiring me to do more long term projects hopefully to see in print. Please go head over to @findart.gallery and by yourself a copy. It would mean a lot to me and our guy Edmund 🤓📸🙏🏽. First 5 people get 15% off with the promo code JAEKBANA15. “Go buy motherf&£%ers” 🤣

Playground handcolored black and white (Part one)

Memories of childhood are like the clouds that pass in the sky. Sometimes an image crystallizes and you are flooded with a wave of emotions. I remember playgrounds where I played as a child. My mind colors these memories as if they were paradises. In my psyche, the world of childhood is idealized, bright and full of joy. But are my memories really as idyllic as I imagine them to be?

A day at the playground begins like any other great adventure. A place where we could be the heroes of our own stories. A place where we could live out our fantasies and push our limits. The sun always shone brightly and I played for hours. I remember the slides, the swings and the sandpit. I remember the laughter and the voices of the other children. I remember how I could feel the happiness inside me.

But if I'm honest, not every day at the playground was perfect. Sometimes there were arguments or I was excluded. Sometimes the playground was crowded and I couldn't find a place to play. But my psyche blocked out the unpleasant parts of the memories and kept only the positive ones. A concealment of the truth, a whitewashing of the past.

Sometimes I add events to my memories that never happened. I invent adventures and experiences that I supposedly had on the playground. I create stories that make me even more nostalgic and maintain the illusion of a perfect childhood.

Childhood memories are our most precious treasures. But we must remember that they are just that - memories. Our psyche can romanticize them, give us a distorted perception of the past. Time and time again I return to my childhood playground and sink into the memories. Whether real or imagined - they will always be part of life.
