POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Rescued this stunning 1787 New Jersey Colonial Copper. To find one of these state coppers with this kind of detail in our soil is uncommon, but finding one that is my absolute "Birthday Coin" (1787 vs. 1987) is unparalleled. This coin isn’t just a save it’s personal history.

**History doesn't deserve to be left in the dirt.**

The 1787 NJ copper is the definitive coin of the Garden State’s colonial era. These weren't federal money; they were a unique state issue minted right here in New Jersey—at locations like Morristown or Rahway—after the Articles of Confederation allowed individual states to create their own currency. Each coin was a statement of NJ sovereignty.

While almost all federal coins use symbols like the Eagle or Lady Liberty, the NJ copper is iconic for its uniquely **agricultural symbolism**. The obverse (front) features a majestic **horse’s head** above a plow, while the reverse shows the **Shield of the United States**. It is the definitive 'Garden State' coin, honoring the farmers that built our state.

For me, this 1787 find holds a unique significance. It’s my Birthday Coin, ending in **'87** just like my own birth year of **1987**. To save a piece of history that mirrors my own timeline by two centuries is an incredible, personal loop. Some signals are just meant for you to find.

The patina on a 1787 copper is 90% of its value and history. If you use physical force to clean it you risk a clumsy slip that scratches

The key to metal detecting is patience

skeleton key rescued from the plowed fields using my custom **B1ND3R** program on the **XP Deus II**. While some enthusiasts are looking for only coins to me these keys "unlock" some of the true understanding to the homesteads and history that once stood here. 🏡

This is a **barrel key** (also known as a hollow-shank key), common from the 1700s through the late 1800s. Its hollow tip was designed to slide over a central pin inside a "warded lock." Finding a key of this size usually indicates a significant door—likely the main entrance to a colonial-era home or a heavy cellar gate.🗝

Old keys didn't have complex tumblers like modern ones. Instead, locksmiths built **wards** (metal obstructions) inside the lock. The "teeth" on your key were cut specifically to clear those obstacles. If a key didn't have the exact notches to bypass the wards, it couldn't turn. It was a simple but effective "mechanical password" for the 18th century.🔐

The Minelab excursion results are in. 🪙⛏️

We pulled everything from Large Coppers to unique Dandy buttons and a possible 1700s Cufflink. These relics are finally cleaned, stabilized, and ready for the archives. I tried to use museum wax to preseve some as time and environment have not been kind to them.

This marks the final chapter for the **Equinox 800** on this site for a wee bit. Next time we hit these #fieldsplowed, we’re seeing what the **XP Deus II** can do. With the custom B1ND3R program I made.

🔸️Saved from the cycle! ⛏️ Found these two Coppers while swinging the **Minelab Equinox 800**.

🔸️These were the only two I managed to catch on video before the light faded, but wait until you see them out of the dirt. I’ve already got them cleaned up. Posting the reveal next!

🔸️Closing the chapter on the Minelab for a wee bit while I habe fun with my Deus II.

🔸️Looking forward to seeing what the new tech pulls out of these #fieldsplowed.

kids are cute, but have you seen the patina on a 1700s copper? 😍

Every hole tells a story. Just out here doing my part to make sure those stories don't stay buried.

The time one takes for the keeps they sake,
slow steps through fields where old paths wake,
coil to the soil, hear the soft earth speak,
truth in the tones when the signals peak

not for the gold, nor the shine or the claim
but peace in the process, not chasing the fame,
a pure heart locates where things lost things lay,
nature will whisper, signaling you its way

winds through the trees, like maps in disguise,
history hums where the silence lies,
every swing is a prayer, every dig is a chance,
in rhythm with earth, like a quiet dance

so I listen close, I let it guide me,
what's meant to be will always be free.
When its ready the things that are lost,
come fourth and seek me.

Treasure is what YOU find 🤘💛🥰

Swinging the XP DEUS II and uncover a fun item. I say that because it has a makers name on it.

after some research I found that the company was not too far away in Philadelphia. This is a drain plug for a clawfoot bathtub.

imagine that. All the way out here lol wonder who was out taking a bath in the field by the moonlight. Just kidding it's very likely that older things coler of been buried or lost due to time.

That is why it is fun to be a detectorist you get to play the role as detective and trace back and uncover many wonders.

Managed to find where the building used to be. Can you believe that! how cool!

More information on Company:
Woodward-Wanger Co. refers to a Colonial Revival industrial building located at 1106-1114 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. This building, also known as the Lawsonia Building, was built in 1929. In recent years, the rear half of the building was demolished during a redevelopment attempt that was later abandoned, leaving the front façade as a remnant.

This building's significance to Philadelphia's history lies in its representation of Colonial Revival architecture in the context of commercial and light industrial buildings of its era.

It is important to note that the search results also contain information about other entities with similar names in Philadelphia, including:

George Woodward Co.: A company focused on providing and managing homes in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy, primarily built between 1906 and 1926. They have a long history of housing development, including pioneering adaptive reuse of older buildings.

George Woodward: A significant figure in Chestnut Hill's development, associated with building numerous homes and contributing to the area's architecture and cultural institutions.

thanks for stopping by!

Rapid Fire of all the ones found at
2023 Paper Mill Archived Footage:

So many buttons came from here. Back in the day paper was more fabric like and we would often attempt to recycle them. I assume this is what happend here.

I got to go with a dear friend and was very grateful.
Never in my life have I ever experienced something like that. It felt like a dream.

Found so many relics I had to put dirt in my pockets to hold and preserve the multiple finds until I clean them. I did not want them to dry out it was WILD.

Never in my life have I ever experienced something like that. It felt like a dream.

I am catching up on all the stuff I didn't post. 🫶
