THIRD SPACES #005 | FINJAN COFFEE CO. | MISSION VALLEY

Sometimes you go for coffee and leave with a story.

My introduction to Turkish coffee began at Sands Coffee Roasters in Oceanside, where I met Mo and learned about the tradition behind each cup. Now my journey exploring third spaces brings me to Finjan Coffee Co. in Mission Valley. Turkish coffee again, this time sweetened, and paired with baklava. What a fantastic combination!

That’s what I enjoy about discovering coffee shops across San Diego County. Different flavors, different cultures, and stories that remind us how much there is to experience right here in our communities. Sometimes a cup of coffee opens the door to something new.

Explora tu comunidad.

What’s your third space? ¿Cuál es tu tercer espacio?

Draw… Draw… Draw… Draw everyday and then you die!!! Those were the words of our beloved mentor and bad ass artist Cornelius Cole the 3rd @calarts #characteranimation ✍️ Drawing people at cafes have always been one of the foundations of my art process and development. It’s live, it’s raw, it’s organic… Jazz music in motion… the caricatures of people here are some of the workers and patrons that I captured at this cool coffee spot @finjanco ☕️ the have really really great Turkish coffee. This is not a paid advertisement, gotta give cafes their due credit when their product is genuinely great quality 🙏🏽

Fried chicken sandwich, but with a Middle Eastern twist?! 🥙🤩❤️‍🔥

I’m loving this Middle Eastern-inspired take on fried chicken at @eattahini. This is the Aleppo Hot Chicken Pita, and it’s only available on weekends!

The Chicken is hand-breaded and fried to order, then stuffed into a freshly baked pita with housemade coleslaw. The Middle Eastern spices give it a tangy kick with just the right amount of heat. And this thing is HUGE! It’s easily shareable and only around $15!

Beyond the hot chicken pita, you can also build your own salad, bowl, or pita and choose from a variety of Middle Eastern sides 🥗🫓

☕️ And right next door is @finjanco, a Middle Eastern coffee shop that’s the perfect stop for a drink and something sweet after your meal. I recommend the date foam matcha latte using Paru Tea and the Sparking Mazgran.
