Today, the Southlake community gathered for the annual homecoming festivities in Town Square. The Mardi Gras-themed celebration began with the carnival, which included 40 booths sponsored by Carroll extracurriculars and clubs, many of which offered different games and activities. The parade followed, featuring floats from student groups and extracurriculars across the district, from elementary students to senior Dragons. The festivities concluded with the pep rally, where performances from the cheer team and Emerald Belles preceded the recognition of the homecoming court and the crowning of the 2026 Homecoming King and Queen, Max Tessnow and Avery Le (12).

“l actually didn’t expect to be homecoming queen,” Le said. “I think we were kind of just talking to our friends about it for fun and then it just, like, happened. But it was a really great experience.”

Underclassmen princes and princesses were also announced. Congratulations to the 2026 Homecoming Royalty:

On Friday, Aug. 21 the Lady Dragon Volleyball team held their home opener against the Colleyville Panthers. The team aided their overall record of 8-8 with another win in four sets and a final score of 23-25. The energy was high as a new wave of seniors took the court, defending their reputations as 2025-2026 6A Division II State Champions.

“Being a senior for the home opener was like ‘oh wow, it’s finally my turn,’” Abigail Clem (12) said. “It was like the beginning of the end kind of feeling. Also, since I was injured last year, getting to have senior season just feels so gratifying and I’m so excited.”

In addition to the competition, the team included their new program “Lil Dragons,” during the national anthem and player announcements. The program allows younger kids to get a T-shirt and be honored down on the floor to feel a part of the team.
