This performance was the culmination of my year-long independent study, Finding My Directing Philosophy-a project I created that had asked me to move beyond simply talking about what I value as a director, and instead test those values in practice.

It was also the debut of a method I have created I am calling “The Unknown Method.” It was the first lived performance using this method of direction and I hope to continue imporoving this method as I go forward with my career as a director!

The process was grounded in questions of collaboration, authorship, queer and femme-centered storytelling, and what it means to build a rehearsal room that makes space for risk, failure, and discovery. I’m deeply grateful to the collaborators, mentors, and teachers who shaped this work and made that weekend possible so here’s to Bettie’s for ever and ever!🩷👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🏳️‍🌈.
