It's 2 years since I left Singapore, and first arrived in the Netherlands ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ Returning to school was so fun, but also soo challenging - a complete upheaval. If my inner world was a garden, then I've uprooted every plant and tilled the soil. It's a HOT MESS! And I don't know what it'll look like next, but I do have some seeds and the intention has always been to grow deeper roots and reach taller heights ๐Ÿซ˜

Even though it's been 2 years.. now that I finished this Master's programme, I feel like I'm moving out of DAE and into the Netherlands for the first time. I feel deep gratitude, joy, but also uncertainty, longing, grief - it's again a season of change!

I've been reminded that the upsetting cloud that often looms over me, is tethered to fear and a longing for a picture of my life that could tell me how it's supposed to be ๐Ÿ”ฎ

But if I already knew, then what would be the point? My future successes would cease to be rewards.

I'm reminded that life isn't a puzzle to be solved, or a destination to arrive at, but a dance to engage in and enjoy ๐Ÿชฉ And again, I am called to courage! Called to trust ๐Ÿคฒ๐Ÿป

I feel as though Iโ€™m still waking up from a dream!! @penlandschool , you were everything I dreamed of and MORE! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Two unforgettable weeks with Marc Barreda (@studio_barreda) in his Devious Drinking Devices Reimagined course in Penlandโ€™s glass studio, where I learned the art of trick glasses. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿซ—

It was an intimate class - just me, Evan, Fiona, Abigail and Kat - guided with exceptional skill and generosity by David and Teresa (@davidschnuckel & @theresajorgensen)

Working with glass teaches so. much.
clear communication,
the balance between promptness and patience,
the humility to let go when things donโ€™t go as planned,
and the joy of collaboration. โ˜บ๏ธ

Grateful beyond words to the City of Virginia Beachโ€™s 2025 Individual Artist Grant and a Penland scholarship for making this experience possible. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿชฝ

I just had the time of my life with @studio_barreda in his ๐˜‹๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฌ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜‹๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ course at @penlandschool for the last couple of weeks!ย ย  โ€ฆand super delighted to have shared the role of studio assistant with @theresajorgensen as part of it.ย  Lots was given by the two of them: exemplary leadership, technical savvy, creative vision, and an unmatched level of generosity in- and out-of-studio (and at all hours of the day).ย  Models of excellence in every way.

There is so, so much more to trick glasses than those cool little things let on.ย  Historically. Creatively. Intellectually. Culturally.ย  Technically.ย  TONS to be mesmerized by. ย I love many things about trick glasses because of this course, but the truest truth about them is written in Marcโ€™s course description:

And that they did. I loved being part of a hot shop cohort that was as ambitious as it was considerateโ€ฆand the group dynamic was nothing short of feeling like family.ย  We were tight.ย  And we were there to get better while making each other better, too.
