Belated post (joy as resistance) bit been going on since … 🐍🔥🏇 … during the kitchen party @ariana612 announced that wwiii was kicking off … I told her to turn the phone off

I think I wanted a moment where things seemed fine. Many friends and inspirations had pulled up to show love. That’s worth the price of admission, knowing I exist in this “scenius” —as a part of an ecosystem which continues to feed many. Since then, no doubt things been even more hectic. It’s taken BETTER SORRY THAN SAFE to a new meaning.

What’s interesting to note is that I conceived the idea for this show over 4y ago (incl artist statement). @oldfourlegs was driving and I was talking about this idea … originally it was meant to be “better safe than sorry”— he suggested flipping it on its head. It’s more the other way around, isn’t it?

As artists and makers sometimes commenting on and addressing the things around us seems (in) vain. The intention is beauty as strength, conception as power. The refusal to be idle or passive. Though not outspoken, i hope you’d know to read between the lines.

I don’t like writing much about my art. That’s why I became an artist. But yall seem to like it so — here we are

W many thanks to all involved. This show did exactly that; provide some reprieve in a dappled time

Ps another interesting directors commentary is that I envisioned this show to be akin to an album. Hence a solo w features— like verses on a song. In a time where I’m paid more to DJ than to make art, it was nice to get some income from my original obsession, pushing pigments

And before I berate myself to remember to pay a photographer next time, it reminds me of what my uncle @an5ontan asked me some years ago now .. “why aren’t there many photos of your art online?” to which I replied, “if there were good photos of my work online, no one would come to my shows.”

Til next time

Happy release day to @nightmaresonwax - and much love to George for doing the signing at Northside Records in February this year. What an amazing day. Much love to @housewifeschoicesound and @selector_miss_fee & @extr.emelyne - our DJs

An inspired coming together of musical minds. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of In A Space Outta Sound, George Evelyn aka DJ E.A.S.E has handed over the tapes to dub maestro ADRIAN SHERWOOD to go on a heady version excursion with eight tracks from the original record, in the spirit of the reggae and sound system roots that informed the original album. The result is a fresh take on a much-loved classic, in the lineage of albums such as Massive Attack’s No Protection and Spoon’s Lucifer On The Moon. Features bold new re-works of iconic tracks such as “You Wish” (appearing here as “You Bliss”) and “Flip Ya Lid” (mutated into “Flippin Eck”). As well as his trademark mixing desk wizardry, @onusherwood has also brought in some of the core On-U Sound players to add additional instrumentation and turn this collaboration into something which is much more than the sum of its parts.

Presales from the INSTORE SIGNING will be posted out on Tuesday. We have a limited number of SIGNED INNER SLEEVES for lucky northside customers that can go with these new records. $65 each.

No complaints 2025… no wait… many, many complaints… You were actually demoralising, dehumanising and debasing … but also all these good people and good times! I am very grateful to be able to have this much fun in the world as it comes to an end…
