I’m writing this sat on a train in Scotland with Rudy, Annabelle, Yezou, Fionn, Jayden and Thies, where we are staying for a week over new years and will eventually return to Maj for dinner and our night out. This year was not for meeting new people, at least not like before, but a year for getting closer to those already in the peripheries of my life who I saw potential in. Much like the crowd I have dragged up to Glasgow, I’ve enjoyed pulling people into my world and learned that care in maintaining friendships is just as delicate and valuable as fostering new ones. I have such a feeling of belonging and peace around the people I choose; thank you for taking the time to let me know you, and thank you for carrying me through the year.

I’ve gotten closer to some brilliant people who I’m proud to call my friends, and I have all of you in mind when I write this - I feel like we’re at an interesting age where our sense of selves are starting to cement, and I can make out your futures bright and forming in the distance.

This year I learnt that I have limited capacity. Limited time, limited energy - I think I used to believe my world could keep expanding forever and ever; I could befriend everyone I meet, I could do everything I wanted - read, sew, make, play, go out, stay in - without making sacrifices if I only worked harder at managing my time and balancing them all. This year I learnt that isn’t true, and that’s ok! It’s nice in fact, that I am able to become more sure of the things I want and set borders around the life I’ve made for myself.

Things it consisted of: dinner parties, craft nights, morning sunlight through fogged windows, pheasant gumbo, black and white photography, head to toe lace, photoshoots, flights to Berlin, coaches to London, scheming creative community events, New York City, wild swimming, BINGO, coloured tights, candles, sparklers, full body laughter at almost anything.
