POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🎙️ On the @hometrails__ Podcast this week, we have @fior_berry

Andy is a well known British mountain ultra runner, who has steadily built a reputation for tackling some of the UK’s most iconic rounds and races.

He’s taken on the Steve Parr Round, Paddy Buckley, Winter Tranter’s and the Bob Graham Round to name a few. He’s won the Lakeland 100 in recent years and runs himself into the top 10 at international ultras around the world.

Andy is a big personality in the sport and always has a lot to say about what’s happening in ultra running.

We talk about his superhero origin story. His time split between Durham and The Highands and his life balance of coaching and plumbing.

In this episode we introduce a new segment call @maxjolliffeunsolicitedmemes Asks...and we get his answer to quite a personal question about his current sponsor. Andy also speaks about him being asked (2nd hand) to be involved in the Captains BGR attempt....you’ll need to listen to hear that answer!

@mj_darbyshire went on to set the course record at @13valleysultra 2026, with a time of 22:09:03. 2 hours faster than the previous CR.

When @fior_berry made the decision to change his clothes in Grasmere, after the unfavourable night conditions, Mark made a move and built a gap of over 30 minutes.

Elite field update 👀

There’s been a shake-up at the sharp end of the 13 Valleys Ultra.

Mark Darbyshire, winner of the inaugural 13 Valleys Ultra in 2023, is stepping up from the 5 Valleys and will now be taking on the full 13 Valleys once again.

And joining him on the start line is Andy Berry, adding even more strength to an already stacked men’s field...

With just over a week to go, here’s how the Top 5 men line up by ITRA Performance Index.

The bottom of my heels fell off. Not a figure of speech - during my fastest attempt at the Bob Graham Round, that’s essentially what happened, and it’s the reason I missed my target.

I chalked it up to bad luck. Wrong socks, not enough miles in the shoes, wrong anti-friction cream. One of those things.

14 months later I’m in the Pyrenees for Val d’Aran 100 -
10,000m of elevation gain and loss on steep, technical mountain paths. 10km into the race, my first big descent, and my feet feel like I’m walking on hot coals. Instant burning. Every flashback from the Bob Graham hit me at once, and I still had further to go than I did that day. I dropped out.

That’s when it stopped being an anomaly and started being a problem I actually had to solve.

Turns out: athlete’s foot. Genuinely common, genuinely something I never took seriously until it was taking races off me. Once that fungal infection takes hold, the skin gets raw, itchy, painful. Add a hot, dusty trail and sweaty feet, and you’ve got a race-ender.

So I went after it properly. Habits, kit, environment, all of it. Which is where the Atacama came in. I live in Fort William, one of the wettest places in the UK, so damp shoes are a daily reality. Damp shoes plus a warm house is basically a petri dish. Drying them properly, every time, plus the Atacama’s O3 setting for bacteria and odour, has made a genuine difference.

Jess asked how my feet were looking the other day. Her exact words: “Oh wow, you’re actually starting to look like you have normal feet.”

We’re getting somewhere.

Full story + how the Atacama fits into my routine on the SOS website.

Race hard. Race smart 🫡

INOV8 athlete @fior_berry is in the Pyrenees mountains ready to race the Val D’Aran ultra - 100 miles / 10,000m ascent.

“I’ve put a lot of work into the approach I take to my ultra running to make it a place where I feel more able to race free of external noise and pressure,” he said.

“That will get its first proper test this weekend, and that’s exciting.

“The clock will look after itself, and I know my natural competitiveness will rise up if it becomes a close race.

“Race hard, race smart.”

Let’s go, Andy.

To celebrate Global Running Day 2026 we asked our trail athletes and ambassadors a simple question - Why do you run?

For some, it’s a return to simplicity to clear the mind.

“It makes me feel in control and clears my head, and is something I can feel proud of.” - @tommyrunpt

For others, it’s about getting into the hills with their best friend.

“I do all of my best thinking whilst moving and enjoy the headspace, freedom and the beauty of the great outdoors with Murphy the dog.” - @sarahperry19917

Why do you run?
