There are certain stops you just HAVE to make when you’re back home in the mountains of Western Maryland… and Firefly Farms in Accident, Maryland, is absolutely one of them!

The other day, before I officially pointed the car south and headed back to Florida, I decided to make one last-minute stop. Because really, was I going to leave Garrett County without bringing home some delicious cheese? Absolutely NOT!

Firefly Farms makes some of the best cheeses around! Now, maybe I’m a little biased because it’s from my hometown, but I don’t care. It’s always THAT good!

There’s something special about bringing a little taste of home back with you. And believe me, I’ve already got a few ideas brewing in The Accidental Chef kitchen!

Will these cheeses become part of some delicious new recipes? Probably.

Will I find myself standing in front of the refrigerator at 11 PM, eating cheese straight from the package like a sophisticated adult? Also probably.

Either way, I can’t wait to enjoy every bite!

If you’re ever visiting Accident, Deep Creek Lake, or anywhere in Garrett County, make sure Firefly Farms is on your list. Supporting wonderful local businesses that create incredible products is always worth celebrating!

A little piece of home, one delicious bite at a time.

An ode to the Waldorf salad, much like the one we had when we first opened our doors … but better.

A rotating selection of beautiful raddichios from @coldcofarm, currently featuring verona + castelfranco, served with a celery + shallot + orange zest + white balsamic relish. Top-dressed with a vinaigrette of @masonfarms concord grape juice + fermented grapes + red wine vin + dijon + olive oil. Finished with slices of orange and crumbly bleu cheese @fireflycheese. A perfect balance of fruity and savory.

Think you know American cheese? Think again!

Olivia’s favorite— ‘Carolina Moon’ by Chapel Hill Creamery right here in the Carolinas. A bloomy rind soft cheese in a Camembert-style that’s buttery, slightly vegetal, and earthy!

James’ favorite— ‘Merry Goat Round’ from Firefly Farms Creamery in Maryland. A stunningly creamy and lactic, mild goat cheese.

Trip’s favorite— ‘Mountain Top’, coincidentally also from Firefly. Known for its innovative use of blue cheese mold on the rind instead of pierced into the cheese. Slightly funky, oozy, and robust.

We love our European cheese, but American cheesemakers are doing some seriously exciting work of their own. The proof is right here in our case waiting for you!
