First Day Back with the cabs – Japan Tour 2025 at Shindaita FEVER, Tokyo – September 24th, 2026 (Thu) --- First Day Back were absolutely incredible. It really made me wonder if we’re starting to see another wave of the second-wave emo revival coming out of the US right now. More than anything, tonight felt like something we may never get to experience in quite the same way again. It felt like such a privilege to be there—to share that particular moment, in that particular room. Something genuinely special. I didn’t go to any touring shows in August. It was just a quiet month of going to work every day and living my normal routine. So having that everyday life suddenly interrupted by something as extraordinary as First Day Back was almost strange. I think that contrast made tonight hit even harder. The show also got me thinking about debut albums. Sometimes I wonder if bands somehow leave space in their first album for the sound they’re going to make next. But maybe it isn’t intentional at all. Maybe that’s the whole point. The accidents, the chemistry, the initial impulse to make something before you even know exactly what it is—maybe those things can only exist at that exact moment in a band’s life. And getting to witness that moment while it’s still happening might be a tiny miracle in itself. That’s probably the closest I can get to putting into words what I felt tonight. Everyone I talked to afterward had their own way of describing the show. Different things stood out to different people, and everyone used different words. But somehow I felt like underneath all of those different reactions, we’d all picked up on something very similar. I really hope First Day Back come back to Japan again. Good luck with the Australian tour. And I seriously can’t wait to hear the second album.

first day back - forward (2025) first version of their independent cd release happy one year since i saw first day back live! oh how time flies :] it’s so awesome to think i heard of them through a friend posting their SJ show clips. i forgot specifically how i got into first day back, but i remember something instantly clicking inside of me from the get go. for awhile, i would joke about people needing to put down the guitars and start picking up classical instruments with the amount of people i’d see post their guitar cover snippets, so hearing and seeing maggie’s violin solos was everything i could ever wish for. this album is the embodiment of summer & autumn time, a real love letter to santa cruz with its warm beaches and cold college campus ridden with towering redwoods. i remember walking around in berkeley, ‘upstairs (212)’ looping in my earbuds, the setting sun shining through dark red leaves, while the dead ones crunched under my feet. everyone was getting back to school, while i felt time pass me slowly. i grappled with turning 20 in the summertime, love feeling ever so far away from me, and then faced the impeding doom of autumn, which would leave me evermore frozen to the core. a very important album i’ve had the pleasure to see performed live 4 times now!! every track is amazing and a standout in their own right. may there be many more beautiful songs and albums to come from them :)
