Why Pros Are Ditching EVA Foam in 2026
That Tampa Bay pattern you're seeing is real, and it's all heat + chemistry + cheap adhesive.

EVA foam was never made for a Florida boat deck. It's basically a soft, closed-cell craft foam. In July your deck hits 110-130 degrees. EVA expands like crazy in that heat and then shrinks back at night. After a few cycles of that, the die-cut sheets start shrinking for real — you see those 1/4 inch gaps at the seams and around hatches that were tight on install day. That's why the Amazon kits look shrunken after a month.

The second killer is the glue. Almost all those peel-and-stick kits use a pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. On a 90 degree day with a dark hull, the deck is so hot that adhesive basically re-melts. Add a little morning dew or bilge moisture underneath and you get lift, bubbles, and then full peel. A lot of the big box sellers are now adding a "high heat waiver" or "sunburn disclaimer" because they know it will leave adhesive residue and stained gelcoat.

And Florida sun just eats EVA. UV breaks down the plasticizers, so it fades, chalks, holds fish blood and sunscreen stains, and that diamond texture goes flat where you stand. It's not repairable either — once a corner lifts, water gets under it and the whole pad is done.

What pros around Tampa to Sarasota are putting down instead:

For guys running charters, Yellowfins, Contenders, etc., they're moving to a true marine-grade system, not a sticker. Something that is poured, mechanically bonded rubber. SAFEFLOOR is winning because it's actually bonded to the deck, not just stuck on. No seams to shrink, it stays cooler than foam, it's closed so it doesn't hold water, and you can pressure wash blood out of it. If a section gets damaged you can patch it.

The test I tell owners to ask is simple: will you warranty it against shrinkage and peel in Florida summer with no sunburn waiver? If the answer is no, it's craft foam, not boat flooring.

Give us call if you're looking for the best high Performance Marine Nonskid Flooring in the industry.

Know When To Catch The Biggest Fish!

Fishing during full moons and new moons can be excellent because their combined gravitational pull creates stronger tides and currents. This heavy water movement stirs up baitfish and triggers aggressive feeding, making these moon phases ideal for targeting active gamefish. Fish tend to feed much more at night during a full moon and the daytime bite slows down.
