POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

GGFA leadership was once again out on the water helping tag salmon alongside UC Santa Cruz and NOAA Fisheries!

These salmon were outfitted with specialized tags that will help researchers track their migration patterns, movement, and timing as they travel along our coast and eventually return to the rivers.

Tagging studies like this provide valuable, real world data that helps scientists and fishery managers better understand where our salmon go, when they move through different areas, and how they survive throughout their lifecycle. The information collected can help improve salmon management, strengthen future season planning, and support recovery efforts aimed at rebuilding healthy and sustainable salmon runs for generations to come.

The group successfully tagged 36 salmon.

GGFA is proud to continue working alongside UC Santa Cruz and NOAA Fisheries and to play a hands on role in research that directly benefits California’s salmon fishery.

The 2026 California salmon season is off to a great start! Boats up and down the coast are reporting great scores, and the fishing has been excellent. Best of all, there is still plenty of quota remaining to harvest, so the season is continuing with lots of opportunities still ahead.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out on the water, now is the time! Get on the books with your favorite GGFA charter boat and come experience one of California’s most exciting fisheries. We look forward to seeing everyone on the water and making this a salmon season to remember!

#FlashbackFriday to what might be our new favorite waterfront event of the year. 🦀

Two weeks ago the Sausalito waterfront was full of sunshine, smiling faces, and a lot of very happy crab eaters. The Crab Festival brought the community together to celebrate and support our local crab fishing fleet.

If you missed it, click the link in bio to sign up for our email list and be the first to hear when tickets go on sale next year.

Saturday was filled with sunny skies over Sausalito, live music floating through the air, kids playing on @helmutsmarine pirate ship, bay cruises taking people out to enjoy it the sights, fresh oysters shucked by @hogislandoysterco and lots of fresh crab prepared by @fishrestaurantsausalito

The 2nd Annual Crab Festival was a waterfront gathering, built organically by the people who care deeply about this community. Fisherfolk, volunteers, musicians, local partners, and neighbors came together to celebrate Sausalito’s working waterfront and the families who make their living here.

We learned a great deal this year and look forward to growing this celebration of our fishing fleets and waterfront community in the years ahead.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and came down to support our working waterfront and local fishing families.

GGFA Community,

We’re gearing up for our 2026 Crab Feed, and we’re currently seeking donations to help make this year’s event a success!

If you’d like to support a great cause — our CPFV fleet and the greater fishing community — donating or buying tickets to our Crab Feed is a fantastic way to do so.

We’re accepting all types of donations — whether it’s the usual fishing gear, lures, tackle, weights, or hunting equipment, or something a little more outside the box like art, vacation trips, gift certificates, or anything creative you can think of!

This event is also a great opportunity to get your company’s name out there and show your support for our mission of protecting our fisheries and keeping our boats on the water doing what they do best — fishing! Please contact us at ggfainfo@gmail.com with any questions or donations!

Thank you for your continued support,
Golden Gate Fishermen’s Association

Another Humboldt Fishing Lumberjack Trip down 2025[✅]. As always thank you @stoompz for being a great charter master and for the invite back out. Thank you @royal_starsportfishing for another excellent fishing trip. Can’t wait for next year! 🫡

Favorite moment this trip was dad and I catching wahoo 20 minutes apart from each other on anchor, straight fluoro, and no wire leader.

We’re pleased to share that GGFA’s Tim Klassen has been hard at work representing us at recent PFMC and other key fisheries meetings. Thanks to his dedication and the efforts of others, we have some great news: the Quillback rockfish stock assessment has come back with very positive results.

This encouraging assessment opens the door to a potential opportunity we’ve been hoping for — the possibility of reopening all state waters for rockfish fishing.

We at GGFA would also like to recognize and sincerely thank Marci and her dedicated staff at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for all their hard work in helping make this progress possible. Their efforts have been instrumental.

GGFA’s Tim Klassen, along with other committed members, will continue to attend PFMC meetings to advocate strongly for access to all state waters. We’ll keep you updated as things progress!

Wow—what an epic weekend!
Our association boats made it happen up and down the coast, and it was nothing short of incredible. Coastal communities came alive, and the energy was amazing. Hotels were booked, parking lots were packed, and tackle shops were sold out—it truly felt like a celebration of everything we love about our fishery and our way of life.

It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces, and even more so to witness the joy and excitement shared by everyone. Our limited salmon opener was a huge success—not just for our association boats and members, but for businesses, families, and entire communities that thrive when salmon fishing is open.

We’re proud of the role we played this weekend and remain committed to working toward the longevity and sustainability of our salmon fishery. This opener was a taste of what’s possible, and we’re more hopeful than ever for longer seasons ahead. Let’s keep pushing to bring back the full vibrancy of our coastal towns—more business, more opportunity, and more of the happiness that comes when our docks are busy and our boats are full.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!
