Introducing FIU Powerlifting!

Founded in 2013, FIU Powerlifting has played a large role in shaping the collegiate powerlifting scene in Florida. As five time consecutive Florida Collegiate State Champions, our team has built a legacy of success while developing generations of competitive athletes. Today, we are a student-led organization dedicated to helping every athlete of ours reach their full potential, whether they’re stepping onto the platform for the first time or chasing national records.

Fun fact: In 2016, FIU was the 3rd ranked Collegiate Powerlifting team in the nation!

Notable alumni include Chris Perez, Evelio Gonzalez, Brandon Rojo, and Danny Lawrence, whose accomplishments include multiple national-level competitions, with Evelio Gonzalez also competing internationally at the World Championships representing the USA.

(+22.5kg Meet PR)

Sebastian had hit a little bit of a training wall shortly after Collegiate States in 2025. After switching the formula and intensity exposure after seeing a drop in training performance Sebastian’s lifts immediately responded positively.

Bench was the one lift we felt we truly didn’t have figured out but after absolutely demolishing 142.5kg in training and on the platform with the new training approach we knew we found what we needed.

Squats came up a bit short on the day after selecting a bold 220kg 3rd attempt that we felt was the right call but it just wasn’t there on the day.

Deadlifts are showing great resilience by continuing to be (though at a slower pace) extremely reliable and predictable.

We look forward to continue adding to Sebastian’s total while helping him shed some bodyweight over the summer.
