The teeter has a lot more going on with it than any other agility obstacle due to its motion and the sound it can make. This is why teaching and proofing the picture you want of the teeter before ever asking your dog to step on the board can be incredibly powerful! This clarity, paired with at-home unpredictable movement exercises, can in turn be super helpful for building future teeter confidence.

So that’s exactly what we will do over these three weeks!

We will begin by teaching a nose target to a small object on the flat. From there, we will go through various proofing methods to make sure the target is fully independent. Then we will take that nose target and add it to any raised surface, once again proofing the nose target on the raised surface. (This can be anything your dog can stand comfortably on.) And finally, we will fade the nose target to a small flat object that is ready to be added to a teeter and extremely easy to fade out once added.

At the same time, we will be working on confidence building exercises for the motion and sound aspects of the teeter via several different games.

By the end of the three weeks, you will have a full teeter performance that is fully proofed without ever having set foot on a teeter!

For those who do have access to a teeter, there will also be optional lecture at the end of class discussing how to transfer your full teeter behavior to an actual teeter. But this piece will be fully optional!

Beyond The Board: Teeter Training (No Teeter Required!) with @fivebyfivecanine 3-week class begins online September 1st! Classes registration link in bio.

Does your dog have big feelings about dog agility? Whether they love the sport so much they can’t contain themselves or have big feelings about new environments, other dogs, or strangers, in this episode Bronagh and I talk about how big feelings impact your dog’s agility performance and what you can do about it.

Reset stations are one of Bronagh Daly’s favorite tools for dogs with big feelings about agility. A reset station is a spot your dog can go to when feelings start to build, an error happens, or you both need a moment to regulate. The work always continues afterward, so it never signals the end of a session.

Swipe through for the full progression from the AG475 sample lecture: teaching the dots, adding the reset cue, building distance, and even using the station to train something new.

AG475: Big Feelings: Building the Ideal Brain State for Agility starts June 1 with Bronagh Daly. Registration is open now.

Agility Training with D🔵TS!

During this session - we were asked to be where our dogs associate training for agility. Being able to go from arousal state to focus work (agility) is such an important skill for any dog to learn.

By using a toy to play (arousal) and then asking for Rain to touch the dot (focus work) is what we are working on here in this session. I can’t wait till we are cleared from our injury to start actually implementing the D🔵T into some of our agility training in the next couple of weeks! 🙌🏻 stay tuned

It’s teaching running contacts! It’s building distance work! 🟡

Wait... is that a DOT?!

And it might be the most versatile tool in your agility training kit.

Bronagh used it for a 6-minute A-frame breakthrough, but dots work their magic on weaves, contacts, turns, distance handling... you name it.

What’s YOUR guess about how it works? 👇

See it in action - latest reel is up!

From dots to a running A-frame in just 6 minutes? ✨

Instructor Bronagh Daly demonstrates the incredible versatility of dot training with her boy’s first A-frame session (breaks included!).

With a strong Control Unleashed pattern games foundation already in place, dots provided the perfect bridge to this new skill.

This is exactly what you’ll learn in AG355: 101 Agility Applications for a Dot - how to use this powerful foundation skill across all areas of agility training.

Ready to unlock the potential of dots?

Do you have a dog who can become very sensitive during your agility training? Do they struggle with perceived failures or being “wrong” even when they aren’t? Do they struggle with certain environments or agility related sounds/sights? Or do they struggle to repeat sequences or learning new skills that involve repetition or trying something new?

FDSA’s 6-week online course, Success Over Stress: Confidence Building for the Sensitive Agility Dog taught by @fivebyfivecanine is tailored specifically to you! This includes sensitive dogs that stress down as well as those who stress up or stress into specific traits such as sniffing, stalking, barking, etc.

Throughout this course, we will go over strategies to help your sensitive dog walk away from training sessions feeling GREAT! Along with these specific strategies and exercises, we will also go through reasons why our dogs may become sensitive during training and ways to mitigate that. We will also go through what that sensitivity itself may look like so that you can be proactive in the future.

We will go through strategies both for at home training as well as seminars, classes, and trials.

You will walk away from this course armed with new tools to help balance out your training and leave everyone feeling more cool, collected, and confident!

June classes open for registration May 22nd! Mark your calendar 📆
