Today's song of the day is "Wizard Needs Food, Badly" by Five Iron Frenzy!

I'm glad T&N signed Brave Saint Saturn cause that allows me to share one of my all-time favorite bands for the song of the day! Nobody does ska like FIF, they're pretty killer!

There was definitely a time when liking a band before everyone else was cool… and continuing to like them after everyone else discovered them somehow wasn’t. 😂

Five Iron Frenzy nailed that ridiculous little piece of music-snob logic almost 30 years ago in “Handbook for the Sellout”: the idea that once a band becomes popular, suddenly they’ve changed—even when the music hasn’t. As the song puts it, “Being popular is lame.”

I’ll admit, I used to fall into that trap a little. Underground = cool. Radio = sellout. If everybody liked it, clearly I needed to find something more obscure. 😂

But somewhere along the way I realized something incredibly freeing:

Good music is good music.

This is OneRepublic at the Hollywood Bowl, and there’s absolutely nothing obscure about them. Ryan Tedder has spent nearly two decades writing massive songs—not only for OneRepublic, but for artists like Beyoncé, Adele, Taylor Swift, Leona Lewis and plenty more. Halo, Bleeding Love, Rumour Has It… the guy has had his fingerprints all over pop music for years.

And standing there with thousands of people singing along under the lights at the Hollywood Bowl, I wasn’t thinking about whether the band was alternative enough, indie enough, or too mainstream.

I was thinking, I’m glad that I decided to come to this show, this is great!

Turns out you don’t get extra points for liking something nobody else has heard of. Sometimes millions of people like a band because… well… they’re really talented.

I was really impressed with @zachfilkins1r guitar skills!

My younger music-snob self would probably call me a sellout.

Five Iron Frenzy warned me this would happen. 😂🎶

PS. If you ever have the opportunity to see a show at the @hollywoodbowl, do it! DO IT! #onerepublic #hollywoodbowl #livemusic #popmusic #california

Some things I liked about August:
1. Dressing up to celebrate my friends’ wedding anniversary and Andrew becoming an Alpha
2. NYC bus rides with old Idaho friends
3. The new @betterlivingsucks album
4. Going to a street fair and having Knicks flavored vegan ice cream on a whim with Des, Lauren, and this lil dude
5. Being a ghost (I stole the sunglasses—they’re comically big and I love them)
6. Getting offered free “swag” by Epsilon in exchange for this very stupid picture
7. Duh’s summer pink streak
8. Taking pictures with affectionate couples in the background
9. Blue Comb ‘78 (iykyk)
10. Seeing Olivia Rodrigo at a 700 cap venue (thanks Liz)
11. Taking more photos with affectionate couples in the background
12. Going to a fancy hotel roof I had no business being at
13. Hanging with Avery at said fancy hotel
14. Trying oyster shooters in Charleston for the first time (and not hating it)
15. Taking shirtless pictures with Steve’s cat who kept headbutting me 🤷‍♀️
