Whew! I’m so glad I went to #HowardU!! 🤌🏾🦬🤩 Glad I joined @thehilltophu, a legacy of writers/reporters starting with #ZoraNealeHurston and continuing with Keith Alexander, #MichelleMiller (Me!) and more. The paper hosted a series of panels and gatherings for current students and alumni. It was 🔥. Glad I stepped with Drew Hall, and gained brothers for life. ✊🏾i got to stop by their practice before they opened for the #Homecoming step show. 🥾 Glad I majored in business (not the arts 😅) Longer conversation? So glad I got to reconnect with folks. Even managed to attend the @nativesonnow Black Gay Leadership Forum while in DC. AND visit the African American Museum for the first time. I’d say this was a pretty successful and full 100th homecoming! I still don’t have the words. Your smile, your laugh, your words of encouragement, your fearlessness and your dancing have been a gift to those in your circle and around the world. Thank you. Thank you for teaching me how to say “I love you” to people I love. I didn’t grow up in a household where we said it, it was implied. So it took me some getting used to. But I don’t think we ever ended a conversation without you saying you loved me and then I got used to saying it back. It now flows freely. Thank you for all of the encouragement. Thank you for reminding me who I am. Thank you for reminding me of my brilliance, beauty and badassery when I couldn’t see it. Thank you for the giggles, the advice, the funny stories, the secret binge watching parties, the rehearsals, the compliments on my cocktail making skills, the fabulous international vacations because you’re right, we deserve it. Two years ago this week, we launched the humble beginnings of the DIGIM College Fair! The location was inside Peoria’s historic George Washington Carver Center. We invited 200 high school students from 4 schools, along with industry professionals from all over the country, to connect and inspire the youth to reach their fullest potential! Since then, we’ve done 4 college fairs with thousands of students between Peoria & Springfield!! Big Thanks to all the panelists, volunteers & special guests that come from near and far to give their time and pour into our youth!! & of course, Big Shout Out to the students for taking a chance on our event and spending the day with us!! “My name is Rob. I’m one of the part owners and the V.P. of Business Development for Shinju. I'm not exactly sure when I realized that being black was special. My path has taken different routes over the years, but my commitment to overcome my struggles as a black man in America has remained consistent. Thanks to my parents instilling good moral values and a strong work ethic in me. Along the way I've met individuals & mentors who were positive influences on my confidence & liberation as a black man. These values have given me confidence to take intelligent risks. So when the opportunity presented itself to become a partner/owner in a Spirits Brand, I embraced it with open arms. Today the company owns a few brands. Shinju Japanese Whisky is one of those brands.. Less than 5% of the wineries & spirit companies in the United States are black-owned, but the number is steadily growing.
