POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Images from the Amelia Island Dance Festival @ameliaislanddance I covered last month. It was a great time capturing all the different styles of dance and a huge plus being in the Florida sun and being able to be by the beach at night. I definitely still fall victim to imposter syndrome, especially recently, and have to fight myself to stop having those thoughts. It never gets easier I just become more aware and have patience for myself… sometimes. Today and yesterday have been better, getting me out of that frame of mind and shifting my focus. Coincidentally I had a some photo work too, but that’s another story. #dance #dancephotography #photography #photographer

No plié, no pointe. That's the whole lesson.

The plié is the engine room of everything a dancer does on pointe — the landing she arrives from, the push she leaves from. Without a deep, even, correctly placed plié, pointe work is just balancing on sticks.

Marcia Dale Weary said it constantly in her barn in Carlisle, and I say it in every class I teach: diamond plié. Teach the plié first and the pointe work takes care of itself. Skip it, and nothing on pointe will ever be safe.

DM me to book a master class or private coaching — pointe work built from the plié up. Link in bio.

I've spent forty years saying what I mean in eight counts. Now I'm going to use words.

Starting tomorrow morning: a daily commentary. One honest thought from a life in the studio — choreographing, teaching, coaching, the art form as I see it. Short. No fluff.

This frame holds about forty years of rooms like that one — rehearsals, premieres, dancers who pushed me as hard as I pushed them. Everything I'm about to say comes out of those rooms.

I'm also opening a broadcast channel, As Fast As I Can, where each day's thought will land first. The invite is in my stories today — come join me there.

Tell me what you want a choreographer to talk about. I'm listening.
