Frank Auerbach in his studio for @nytimes

Such a pleasure and so special to be allowed into Frank’s very private world for an hour. And wonderful to share the experience with @fullerton_eliz who wrote the brilliant accompanying piece.

At 91, Frank still paints in his studio every day!

Can’t wait to see his new show of self portraits @frankierossiartprojects

I photographed the writer-director and cast of @joylandmovie (Saim Sadiq, Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, and Alina Khan), the first Pakistani movie to be screened at Cannes, and winner of Best International film at the Independent Spirit Awards. Despite all of its accolades, the film is banned in Pakistan’s Punjab Province due to its featuring a straight-identifying man entering a romance with a trans woman. “Pakistani viewers who had for long been turned into passive consumers of TV or film were all of a sudden actively talking about the role of art in their lives,” @rastisthirdact said. “It’s not the job of films to placate you. Films can talk about things that are uncomfortable.” Article by @carlosfilm

Pre-Viking petroglyph hunters for @nytimes

@lisaabend and I had a night following these guys around southeastern Norway in a blizzard last month for The New York Times.

The 3 are friends and hobbyists who recently discovered 600 new Bronze Age rock carvings (Scandinavian Bronze Age began around 2000 B.C.) depicting ships, humans, animals and geometric shapes. Link in bio-

Thank you @fleetlyfleeifly for the fun story!

“Music, Science and Healing Intersect in an A.I. Opera” with eerie, futuristic photography by @vincenttullo for @nytimes 🧠

The work-in-progress performance “Song of the Ambassadors” got a test run at Alice Tully Hall — with Lincoln Center’s artistic director lending her brain. The show was created by K Allado-McDowell, who leads the Artists and Machine Intelligence initiative at Google, with the A.I. program GPT-3; the composer Derrick Skye, who integrates electronics and non-Western motifs into his work; and the data artist Refik Anadol, who contributed A.I.-generated visualizations. Anadol said, “we are transforming brain activities in real time into an ever-changing color space.” Anadol’s artwork also responds to Skye’s music, which alternates between periods of activity and repose. “We wanted to bring people in and out of a space of meditation,” Skye said.

Latest work for @nytimes is out now with Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols!

Wednesday evening at 8pm I receive a a call from the NYT picture desk. "Can you shoot a Sex Pistol tomorrow morning in central London? He's free after 11am and you might not get much time with him. Super fast turnaround as the story goes live that evening. Are you up for it?"

Of course I was! I love a challenge and I love the Sex Pistols so this was a win, win for me! I went in fully expecting to have about 5 minutes with him, frantically trying to get the shot under tight time constraints and difficult locations. But instead was treated to an hours walk around Mayfair & Hyde Park chatting all things music and his return to London for the first time in 15 years.

Thanks as always to @fleetlyfleeifly for the great commission, and to @eloiseglanvillephotography for the excellent assisting.
