So that was a bit of a project. Weeks of prep. Rehearsals. Merch production. Set builds. Early mornings. Late nights. All of it leading to one stage, one moment. This is what it took to get here and I’m proud of every piece of it. I don’t speak on what it takes to produce & perform the same show that often, but I really do this. AND it took me a WHOLE week to recover. Even so, I am proud of who I am 🪩 Shoutout to every single person who helped make this moment possible 🙏🏽 From ideation to flower leis! It means the world to me 🫶🏽

We are so incredibly blessed. I took this entire week to reflect on the love and joy I received this past weekend for our baby shower. What a gift to have so much community surround us with love as we prepare to welcome our second child. I feel replenished in ways I absolutely needed and clearer on my purpose - my purpose is us! It’s community, it’s bringing people together in moments of celebration, it’s loving on our people and cultivating safe spaces for us to continue to thrive in. That’s my mission. Baby just brought that forth in a major way 🙌🏽 Looking around at the tribe of babies growing up here in LA together, I know we’ll be alright! Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us, showered us with essentials for baby Malone and ate up all my vegan and veggie offerings - yall surprised me haha. What an amazing day celebrating the third installment of the SheCare Wellness Pod at Bennett College! From ‘Protest to Pods,’ this journey has been a wild and meaningful ride—from that April 2023 protest to now launching this space for mental health and wellness, all thanks to the support and of the @blhensonfoundation and @katespadeny . Feeling extra grateful to have my mommy, closest friends, and my Greensboro community by my side for this big moment. I can’t wait to see the healing magic and joy this Pod brings!

I have traveled to Kumeyaay territory (San Diego) to immerse myself in the matriarchal love of being with my daughter’s family. I was welcomed by my beloveds, friends, the open sky and the scent of sagebrush - reminding me of the weaving that is continuous. Living life fully in the present moment brings much to be grateful for, including the life lived prior to the current moment. Well-lived life offers love that shows up no matter where you are, and it also requires us to be in relationships with all that is present seen and unseen. We are never separate from all that existed, exists and will exist - and in that, I honor and celebrate Indigenous People’s Day with you all. May we be always integral to the energy of the land cultivated by those who come before us, so our future generations can inherit this planet we call home as life and love affirming space.

From powerful panels to linking up with inspiring mental health experts, it was the perfect way to wrap up Mental Health Awareness Month. I’m still in shock they gave me a microphone 😳 So many dope moments and connections! I'll be back next year for sure. If you need a reminder that you can do anything you put your mind to, this is it. Never did I ever imagine being invited to participate in such impactful work. Stick with it and believe in the impossible. If that doesn't work do what I do, keep a tight and secure group of friends and mentors who will remind you who you are when you forget 😉✊🏾 #cwt2024

Life lately…. | Vote for a super mom (link in bio) I’ve been in need of deep recovery which inconveniently came in the middle of a social media campaign and towards the end of 2 physical activations - a reminder that I am human. Although I fell behind online, I felt deeply connected offline. Slowed down and became more present with my son, Mana, addressed some points of personal growth, tapped in with people who replenish my spirit, served clients & community in energetically cleansing ways, and ultimately took time to reflect on how far I’ve come as I myself have been leaning into my own Blossoming! 🌸 I’m not super - but every day I try to be my best self, and that’s super noble! The idea of being a super mom is exciting and intimidating at the same time, but I know the chance to win $20K would benefit my continued efforts in serving my community and creating powerful art - I think that’s worth a shot! Color Me Free | pt 2 I never want to be so rigidly defined by a discipline or label that it limits my ability to shift. I’ve seen countless online brands (companies and individuals), who dare to respond to humanitarian crises by publicly declaring a stance or denouncing some form of injustice, fall victim to the lashings of keyboard warriors who quickly demand they “stick to [insert core brand identity here]”. These qwerty bullies don’t want their favorite lifestyle blog or fashion magazine to expand their purview. This is perhaps why so many others have remained silent because of a greater value placed on a pristine image and to appease a complicit audience. It is for this very reason why I push back over and over and over again at the inclination of others to label me as a ‘fashion designer’. I am an artist! And because I am an artist I have a responsibility to always pay attention. As Nina Simone proposes, “An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.” By the time the opening reception for the Octavia E. Butler Seeding Futures exhibition (for which I am a Fellow) came around, there had been an unfathomable 30,000 Palestinians slaughtered. The gravity of that has been too great to simply go on about my day as though it’s business as usual. So I edited the black shirt dress I wore to the reception as a reminder of this current reality. Each hole I created represents 10,000 killed dreams/hopes/lives. There was a hole in the back for those who were victims of surprise strikes, on my shoulder for the ones who’d be cut off from aid, and on my thigh for the ones who asked, “where do we go from here?” I humbly accepted the compliments I received on my outfit, as most saw it as merely a ‘slay’ [the irony of that isn’t lost on me]. As Toni Cade Bambara instructs that the role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible. But I’d challenge you the next time you see me, instead of asking me who I’m wearing or if I made my outfit, ask me about the story I’m trying to tell.
