Turning out…

With continuous 3-turns, forward then backward and on both sides. This has been my scariest pivots drill to date, and took me an hour and a half a half no jokes to get a consistent run of them!

I noticed it felt much easier if I managed to keep my feet light (and try not to land the pivot too heavy) - I think bouncing the knees helps with that. Also leading the turn with the upper body helps too.

These small space drills have challenged my control, and forced me to keep the pivots small - hoping that translates to improvements at the rink 🤞

Turning in…

…with continuous 3-turns. Forwards then backwards on both sides. Using the arms to lead the turn with the upper body helps.

This small space really challenged me and it took more than an hour of failed attempts to get to what you’re seeing here!

I did also attempt the same drill turning out (which I’ll post to my stories), but it’s the most difficult and scary pivot combo and I need a lot more practice and confidence to feel safe doing them in this confined space!

The long term goal is to be able to do a couple of these travelling pivots in a row on this space to really tighten up my control so they flow easily at the rink.

With 3-turns…

Focussing on bouncing the knees to pivot, then raising my eyes to look up.

Didn’t have enough room to complete a full turn so just focussed on the forwards to back facing pivots today (both edges and both feet).

I’ll save the backwards facing pivots (much harder) for when I’m feeling brave!

Where there’s a will…

…there’s a way. Have struggled with motivation the last few weeks - and I know I can’t let it consume me, so I set up this little patch outside to pull me out into the sun.

Surprised myself with what I could do in such a small space, and with some music in my ears and movement of my body I feel like myself again ❤️‍🩹

Seeking daylight…

My small backyard skate space just got a tiny bit bigger! It’s the first dry day since I got the extra tiles so I had to give them a good test, and it’s so nice to skate in natural light with fresh air on my skin 🩵

In case you’re wondering, these are not in-out tiles that most skaters use. I couldn’t justify the cost of shipping them all the way to Aus. But I found a local supplier of something similar @flexspec.au which does the job if you’ve got hard wheels.
