“Don’t ask what you can do, just do it,” said Gemma Berry in our recent podcast interview.

@gem_swimrunride is the founder of the non-profit organisation @roryswarriors and the mother of 10-year-old Rory Berry, who was diagnosed with Paediatric Brain Cancer at the age of 4.

Yesterday, ELEVEN had the privilege of attending the 4th Annual Sliver of Silver event, packed with an afternoon of inspirational guest speakers, delicious food, games, raffles, and a silent auction in the spirit of raising funds to fight Paediatric Brain Cancer.

All donations are passed directly to the @rcdfoundation, who are leading the way in research, care, and development to fund the science behind ending the number one disease killer of young people.

It was uniquely heartwarming and deeply moving to see so many from not only the local Geelong community but also greater Victoria, show their support and sparkle in silver.

We loved seeing Rory whiz around, beaming with so much light and infectious radiance, whilst once again, in awe of Gemma’s dedication and passion for all that she does.

From the 2024 Australian Olympic Rower - @jeanniemitchell - to a father of a daughter suffering from Neurofibromatosis, and the powerfully informative call to action from the executive director of @braincancercentre - @sammcguane – it was an honour to hear so many brave, vulnerable, and strong speakers share their experiences with brain cancer.

Here at ELEVEN, we are passionate about bringing these stories to you, empowering you to go above and beyond and strive for more. Because we truly are stronger together.

Gemma is one hell of a superwoman, leading change in more ways than one. We cannot wait to share her story with you 🙌🏻☺️

In 2019 Elizabeth Petropoulos was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis - a genetic disorder causing tumours to grow on nerve tissue. She was just 29 years old.

In 2023 Elizabeth faced another battle: a cancerous tumour in her brain. With only chemo and radiation as treatment options, she fought with unwavering strength and positivity.

Sadly, Elizabeth passed away on October 14 2023. The Flicker of Hope Foundation established Elizabeth’s Legacy, a beacon of hope dedicated to raising funds for critical NF medical research.

We’re thrilled to welcome @flickerofhopefoundation to our Brain Cancer Centre family.

Flicker of Hope recently partnered with us to support the incredible research being done by Dr Jim Whittle and his Brain Cancer Research Lab @wehi_research team. They’re paving the way with their groundbreaking work towards new treatments and therapies for this devastating disease.

We’re so grateful to Flicker of Hope and their support. We want to bring real hope to patients and families impacted by this devastating disease.

Together, we can make a difference.

Pete’s chosen charity @flickerofhopefoundation is a cause very important to his heart. Zoe an inspirational figure to Pete and the Daicos family, inspired the charity in 2018, when she was diagnosed with NF at just 4 months old.

Neurofibromatosis is a chromosomal disorder that affects 1 in every 2500 people. It can result in many problems such as development of tumours, loss of eyesight & hearing, learning difficulties, bone abnormalities & many other things, even cancer.

@flickerofhopefoundation is aiming to raise money to begin a drug trial, to help contain the tumour growth & development.

100% of the donations go directly to research. The charity has no staffed admin or overhead costs and relies greatly on all their volunteers & helpers.

Keep voting to keep Pete in the jungle so he is one step closer to raising $100,000 for @flickerofhopefoundation ❤️

This appears to be an artistic depiction of a blooming tree with fruit.
However, it actually represents the trunk of a spinal nerve, highlighting neurons in green, immune cells in yellow dots, and tumor cells in red and orange dots—a close-up of neurofibromatosis Type 2.

Tomorrow, we undergo our first MRIs for the year. Currently, I’m portraying a duck on the water—calm and relaxed on the surface, but with scanxiety underneath.

This is why I fundraise; I can’t fix it or take it away. All we can do is support and raise funds to find a cure. This time, it is to help raise money to support the kids and families. A huge thank you to Jacob and Marc as we approach Jen swimming 200m. Please visit our fundraising page (in bio) to donate.

🔲I don’t know what Neurofibromatosis is.
🔲I am an experienced runner.
🔲 have never ran before.
🔲I like to meet new people.
🔲I hate running but kind of want to understand why so many people actually run for “fun”.
🔲I wouldn’t mind something different and would love to meet new people.

If you ticked any boxes keep on reading 👀

Turn up Coaching and Delta Group have teamed up and created a run club. 🏃🏽‍♂️

And guess what… ⚠️⚠️

We would love for YOU to join in and take part!

An added bonus is we are creating awareness for a special foundation, “Flicker of Hope” 😇

Flicker of Hope is a foundation raising awareness for “Neurofibromatosis” A condition that causes tumours to form in the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
Neurofibromatosis tumours can turn cancerous. There are three types of this condition. Type 1 usually appears in childhood, while Types 2 and 3 appear in early adulthood.

Attending the run club all we ask for is an optional gold coin donation each time you attend. 💰
All proceeds will go towards research for Neurofibromatosis. 🧠

Let’s get amongst it and run! 🏃🏽‍♂️👨🏽‍🦯🏃🏽🏃🏽‍♀️
A second session will be added soon 🔜
