2016… 10 years. It was a turning point year for me.
.
I traveled alone to Colorado as an adult to visit my bestie from HS and fell madly in love with Winter. While there I reconnected with many an ole friend of past.
.
It was a year of firsts. I chopped off all my hair, I was the MC of the Flesh Art Show in NOLA, took classes with @ryan.heffington, and a clowning class with @offirnahari. I rode a Penny Farthing for the first time, saw Book of Mormon, built a chicken coop and received our 1st egg! I collaborated with an old photographer friend again, worked RenFaire for the 1st/last time (lol), and took a class with @andrii_bondarenko.
.
My OG kitty Sapphire passed away at 18 leading us to adopt Luna and Maestro. Manda had a baby, I was @designsbylunachic’s board patient for dental school, and bartended at another year of @shakykneesfest. @huggermuggermedia road-tripped to AL with me to see Wicked for the 1st time ever.
.
I gig-ed a plenty, rehearsed a ton, grew a garden, performed in the @atlfringefest, advertised @theoffcenteredproject in print, worked with @moonajin for the first time, worked @dragoncon (the only time I’ve been), stilt walked in the @l5patl Halloween parade with @yacht_club_atl, and tried scleras for the 1st time.
.
It was the last year I would ever see @jacosakato 💔(I miss you so so much), learned why I will never help Porch with a rigging job again, and I proudly didn’t vote for Trump then either.
.
It was a big year but it shaped me.

Residency Process: one of the things that we did early in the @atlantabeltlineart residency was come up with an overall plan for what we could do: what, where, when. Here’s an example of one of them. Some were driven more by more than one of us than the others, while others were a collective “we want to do this”, but they were all packaged up and submitted to our curator @mirandakyle13 without attribution- we would execute as a unit. We had ideas for East side, West side, South side, and some on the North side trail This got boiled down to three activations, of which this was the first. The general concept here was to use hundreds of feet of red bungees on the I-20 overpass on the West side trail.

Out of all the ones we submitted (I want to say we submitted 17 ideas total) I thought this was one of the most ostentatious ones, since it was asking to rig from a major thoroughfare through Atlanta. The childish drawing is mine- I sketched them out backstage in between performances of a show I was in.

This was also the part I got most in my feels about, because some of the ones I was DYING to do got cut for logistical reasons or out of a need to edit ourselves. My heart sank with each “nah”.

I swear they were all cool! (ok, maybe some were less cool in retrospect).
Maybe someday. Another time, place, way.
Accept the no and move on.

This is the proposal for the piece that was performed in April and titled “Connection”
