Good Neighbor Episode 11: Asgard Siargao 🏝️

We took our first flight as a team and trained nogi jiujitsu at @asgardsiargao! One thing about us is we love training anywhere, so jiujitsu on the island is a must. Classes were taught by our very own @flipbjj, and we got great rounds before stuffing our faces for dinner.

We can’t wait to be back. Thanks for having us, Asgard!

A week in Siargao Island with Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu 🏝️

Swipe through as we eat, drink, and train our way around the island. We may or may not have planned our next trip already 🫂

We drove up north for the beaches and had to leave our mark somehow. Who’s down for more NJJ stickers and merch? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Jiujitsu tourism brought us to @asgardsiargao, where our very own @flipbjj taught the nogi classes. On Wednesday, we learned the straight jacket system and on Friday we learned sweeps.

We had tough rounds with everyone and enjoyed training at Asgard. We can’t wait to be back!

Jiujitsu, coffee, food, sleep, repeat. This is our dream rotation ☁️

No trip is complete without a boodle fight. We had this spread at our villa, complete with drinks and dessert.

Just a few of the faces that make our community. All love for Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu ❤️‍🔥 from Cavite, La Union, Zambales, and now Siargao, we feel so blessed to go on these trips, spend quality time, and grow together as teammates and individuals.

Next trip loading… 🗺️

What’s NJJ without our resident big backs?

📍Kanin Baboy @kaninbaboysiargao
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Delicious Lechon + spicy sauce + rice combo. This was our first meal upon landing in Siargao!

Aside from being big backs, we are also biiiiiig coffee people. We averaged 2-3 cups of coffee a day ☕️

📍Coco Frio @cocofriosiargao
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Divine Ca Phe Sua. A must order when you’re in the island. Look at the party on the froth! YUM

This spot is a bit of a drive from our villa, but worth the trip.

📍Marmalade @marmalade.iao
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This spot had a sweet drink called White Wash, with excellent coffee and vibes.

We wore the same rashguard on Day 1 of training - our collab with @forthstreet.camp 🖤

Love the design and quality of this rashguard. Everyone who wears it looks like a 10/10

Here’s us on the last day of training 💪🏻

Light breakfast at the villa before our long drive up north

📍CEV @cevsiargao
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Their food is DELICIOUS. We love the look of the place too, and recommend ordering the Pacifico. We’ll be back!!

Post-surf mornings at our villa 🏄🏻

📍Villa Ramira

Two years ago today, we held our very first open mat.

We had no idea what the next two years would look like. We just knew we wanted to train, have fun, and have good people around us.

Since then, we’ve shared hundreds of rounds, welcomed new faces, watched people compete for the first time, celebrated wins, learned from losses, stayed way too long after training, and made some really great friends along the way.

And honestly, that’s what we’re most proud of. Not the classes, not the medals. The people.

The ones who showed up when we were just getting started. The ones who brought their friends. The ones who kept coming back. The ones who made new people feel welcome. The ones who somehow always turn training into dinner, coffee, or whatever we end up doing after.

That’s Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu.

Two years in, we’re just really grateful for everyone who has been a part of it. Thank you for every round, every laugh, every open mat, every competition, every post-training meal, and every ordinary day in between.

Couldn’t have asked for a better two years. And we’re just getting started 🫂🏠

Happy 2nd birthday to us.

POV: you train with kids who are fearless, so you learn to be brave too. ❤️‍🔥

Grappling Industries was such a good reminder of why we do this.

Watching our kids step onto the mat, fight through the nerves, give it their all, and keep going no matter what happened is something I’ll never get tired of. Jiujitsu teaches them so much more than how to grapple. It teaches them to be uncomfortable, trust themselves, handle wins and losses, and most importantly - to be brave even when they’re scared.

Thank you to all the parents who continue to trust us and support their kids through every step. GI highlight reel incoming 🔜

Everything is a win if the goal is experience ❣️ and if that means winning a gold medal in their first ever competition, then HELL YEAH !!

Our training camp for Grappling Industries was brutal, but we’re so happy the girls pushed themselves and went for it. If you told these two a year ago that they’d be competing in a huge jiujitsu tournament, they probably wouldn’t believe you.

Still on a high from Grappling Industries 🎢❤️‍🔥

For a team that’s still new and constantly growing, we’re so proud of our young athletes for pushing themselves to compete, and so grateful to all the families who showed up and supported them!

These kids put in the work day in and day out, and somehow still have enough energy to play games right after training.

One of our favorite things about watching this team grow is seeing the kids go from being shy and quiet to becoming such good friends. It’s so nice seeing them have fun together, support each other, and grow through jiujitsu.

It really makes us proud of what we’re building at Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu.

Come for the jiujitsu, stay for the people. 🫂

Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu at Grappling Industries

You’ve seen them on our reels, now you get to see them in competition mode ❤️‍🔥

It’s been such a season of growth for our team, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come. So proud of everyone who stepped on the mats, especially our first-time competitors!

More highlights incoming 👀

Saturday was a big one for Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu at Grappling Industries!

We had 6 kids competing in the gi and nogi divisions, which is the most kids we’ve registered since they started competing last November. It’s been so cool watching some of them grow through their competitions, while seeing four of our kids step onto the competition mats for the very first time.

And it feels like our crowd gets bigger every competition! This time, we had so many parents there cheering the kids on, and it really made the day feel extra special.

So proud of our kids, so grateful for the parents and everyone who continues to show up and support our team, and so excited to get everyone back on the mats!

Neighborhood Jiu Jitsu medal tally:
🥇🥇🥈🥈🥈🥉🥉🥉🥉

Couldn’t be more proud of this team. 🏠🤍
