POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It’s been a week since this amazing and rewarding experience of recreating The Legend of Sleepy Hollow through music at @oldnorth1723 and Crescendo Productions. This was such a fun project for me and might be one of my favorite things I’ve written. I tried to emulate pieces like “Peter and the Wolf,” and “The Planets” for their use of leitmotifs, while sticking to an Americana folky vibe, and of course trying to channel some Danny Elfman too. @tstevig and @flipjackson crushed it beyond my expectations while still bringing their own musical personalities into the compositions. John Kinsman, our narrator, entertained the audience brilliantly and nailed all of our musical cues. Included here are bits from some of the pieces, corresponding with elements of the text: “Katrina’s Theme,” “Ichabod’s Waltz” (reprise) “Brom’s Theme,” “Party Jig” (or “reel,” as Tev has corrected me), the Horseman’s theme, and the two interludes: “October” and “Welcome to Sleepy Hollow.” Also some shots of the Headless Horseman himself, the staging area, and my parents! Both shows were sold out and the audiences were fantastic and engaged the whole time. We can’t wait until next year to do it again! Also, we’ll be doing another one of these on Dec 12, for a special night of Christmas themed ghost stories - stay tuned for details!

October is coming, and I’ve composed a suite of original music set to the original story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!” I’ll be performing it in a few weeks with a live reading, on October 9th at Old North Church! Friday, 10/9/2026 530-630 and 7-8pm (ticket link in bio) Old North Church, Boston I’m teaming up with @crescendoproductionsllc and actor John Kinsman, and @oldnorth1723 to present two shows (one night only) featuring this brand new set of compositions performed concurrently with the original text of the short story. I’m absolutely thrilled to undertake this project and very happy with the pieces we will be premiering. Anyone who knows me is aware of my love for horror, ghost stories, and all things Halloween, so this is basically a dream gig for me. The original story, the Disney cartoon, and the Tim Burton film are some of my favorite pieces of media of all time, so I’ve really enjoyed digging back into them for my “research.” Bringing these new songs to life will be my trusted cohorts in Mr. Eo’s Trio: @flipjackson on violin and @tstevig on banjo, guitar, and various stringed things. I’ll be playing bass, tuba, trombone, and maybe a couple of other instruments. I hope you’ll join me for this very unique autumn experience. I can’t wait to present this set of compositions, which I hope will be evocative, haunting, and filled with the magic and spookiness of the original story. Tickets will likely sell out, so buying in advance is suggested.

On October 9, we're hosting a musical reading of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at Old North Church! The brilliant Johnny Kinsman will bring Washington Irving’s classic tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman to life. The gripping live recitation will be paired with a breathtaking atmospheric score of original music performed by multi-instrumentalists Josiah Reibstein, Joe Kessler, and Tev Stevig.
