When I was in Dublin, I went to a @fliplingoes language exchange event. Since I knew I had my Italy trip coming up, I picked Italian and spent the evening speaking this language with natives at the Italian table, flipping to English too so they could practise.

I was certainly rusty (for instance, I said "tomate" instead of pomodoro 😭) but it all came back to me quickly and I'm feeling more confident and ready for this trip!

Hopefully I'll find similar language exchange events in my upcoming Italy travels, since my deeper travels nowadays rarely take me to big international cities where they take place frequently!

Sometimes they are standing events where you can move between crowds, and sometimes there are tables you move between every few minutes, which is great for a polyglot who wants to switch between multiple languages.

Flip Lingoes takes a different approach and you pick the one table you'll spend the evening at, which is better suited to sticking with the one language and was what I needed to get back into my Italian for a couple of hours!
