What does it mean to leave everything familiar behind for love?

For Ilona Langbroek, that question begins with her grandmother, who left Indonesia shortly after World War II to build a new life in the Netherlands with the Dutch soldier she loved.

Through photographs that echo the Dutch Old Masters, Ilona imagines the loss and longing her grandmother may have felt. Carefully researched period clothing, hairpieces, and vases connect each image to her grandmother’s world. The rich, painterly tones and quiet melancholy draw you in—and invite you to linger.

We’re so lucky to be sharing Bildhalle artist Ilona Langbroek’s work in our exhibition at Flora & Henri.

Meet Jane Hedreen.

At the heart of this collaboration is Jane Hedreen, founder and owner of Flora & Henri, whose generosity and enthusiasm have made it possible to bring Bildhalle’s program to the West Coast in such a meaningful way.

Jane has created Flora & Henri with an unmistakable point of view—one rooted in beauty, discovery, craftsmanship, and a deeply personal approach to the objects we choose to live with. That sensibility made the space feel like a natural home for this exhibition.

From the beginning, Jane embraced the idea of welcoming Bildhalle to Marin and opening Flora & Henri to a new kind of art experience—one that introduces West Coast collectors to artists they may not yet have encountered and allows the work to be experienced in an intimate, beautifully considered setting.

We are incredibly grateful for her generosity, trust, and shared belief in creating opportunities for art, design, and community to come together.

This October, we’re honored to bring that vision to life with her at Marin Country Mart.

This October, Lee McIntyre Art Advisory is pleased to welcome Swiss photography gallery Bildhalle to Marin for a special exhibition presented at Flora & Henri at Marin Country Mart.

Bringing together a curated selection of works from Bildhalle’s international program, the exhibition celebrates photography, collecting, and the conversations that happen when art is experienced in a more personal setting.

The enchanting brick and mortar concept store, located in the former Schwabacher Hardware Co. space, was designed by flora and henri Owner Jane Hedreen and award-winning architect Eric Cobb. It was constructed by Tim and Patrick Dolan of Dolan Construction. Spent the loveliest morning in @pioneersquare with @estherkooiman who took me for coffee at @caffeumbria and showed me a great place for soup (you can ask her its name if you’re curious. It does not seem to have an Instagram and it was so delicious.)

This whole area seems like it has underlying buzz for @fwc26seattle and it’s exciting to walk around and take it all in.
Walking back to my car I popped into @arundelbooks and noticed it has a section of soccer books (like one with a history of the World Cup that I need to go back and get.)
I’m actually joining in my first group reading event thanks to @theseattlebookclub and I think I’m going to bring the book I posted with my soup (The women could fly by Megan Giddings. I tend to do mostly audiobooks so I’m looking forward to a chance to make myself read)

My husband bought it for me on his last work trip at a bookstore in Raleigh called @quailridgebooks - it came wrapped with only a short description about it (it’s from a section in the store called “date with a book” and he sent me a photo of all the wrapped up books and I picked a couple after reading their descriptions and he randomly chose from those two so it was a complete surprise for both of us. Have you ever bought a book like this?)

Seattle-based @prairieunderground is now in Pioneer Square and I’ve only ever seen it online so it was nice to actually be able to check out the feel of their clothes.

I also walked into @flora_henri for the first time too and it has the cutest Seattle World Cup @miir water bottles (and hats are coming!) They look like the window art and I love the whimsy.

After all that I stopped by @traderjoes today and spotted Rainier cherries and I wish I saw @lessthandomesticgoddess stories before I didn’t buy the vitamin C serum that was there-Have you tried it? Do I need to go back before it sells out? Do you ever go to Trader Joe’s and only buy exactly what you came in for?

Also are you going to check out any World Cup activities if it’s in your city? I saw the Seattle barge tickets went on sale today from @reignfc and @soundersfc and I’m debating trying that out for a game. It feels like such a cool time for Seattle. ❤️
