It is with unbearable sadness that we write today to make tribute to the incomparable Owain Rhys Davies, who departed from this earthly plane last week.

His loss feels catastrophic.

Owain has been a part of our 5x5 project from the start. Each show is an orchestra of 30 people, making new work, over 6 performances, and the bulk of the producing happens over a 2 week period.

Owain was intrinsic to our first show working, and working brilliantly. He helped us manage rehearsal, he helped us run the tech, ran the music on show, he COMPERED the show, he helped us move the furniture for the scenes, helped the Harpist, helped the singing, the piano, helped the waiters get food out. Stayed till the last to talk about the plays. And as you know, Owain was a phenomenal actor, but showed up to help us achieve our seemingly mad dream. Afterwards, he had notes. We talked about the tricky stuff. We were high on the stuff that worked.

Show 2 at Shoreditch house, he flew home from a trip to NYC the night before and still came EARLY to help, this time Bella Danieli joining our production team. Together we managed the tech, with Emi Agbo onboarding on sound, Owain read all the scripts, memorised all the movement, helped with vocal support, people managed, together Charity and he again did all the stage management, supported Florence as she was in a play that time, had joy, had notes 😋, had love for the work, stayed for clean up.

Cut to our “launch” show just a few weeks ago. He was OUTSTANDING as an actor in Club Mangioni. He brought his full self to the extremely tough subject matter, whilst also helping out production on a million tiny things (and some MASSIVE things), winning friends. Helping people take pics after, he stayed till the end. Leaving with us at 1am, helping to clean up, talking rapidly about the next one and the next one. More notes. More thoughts. More people coming to mind to include and support via this show that is growing.

To Owain.

We cannot bear the thought of never seeing and hugging you again, or doing our show without you. But you would you want us to. And of course, you sent us your notes 📝

We love you Owain, we will do you proud ❤️
