THANK YOU to our incredibly supportive creative community, donors, alumni, students, faculty, media and PSU friends who came out to help us celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the gorgeous new home of the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design last week. It was *the place to be* that night! Every corner of the building buzzed with the school's signature creative energy, with music and performance art, hands-on art activities, interactive games, emerging tech demonstrations, food and drink and so much more. Even though the party is over, the fun is just beginning! Dozens of creative events, workshops, art talks, and exhibitions and showcases are happening in the new building, and you're invited! Check the link in our bio for upcoming art events.

See you on the pink stairs!

Printing session today @psugd with @flotheriso !! Always fun to get a new risograph print out into the world.

This message is for anyone that has been told they are too sensitive.

Know that you have a super power.

To feel is to be in touch with the world and your surroundings! Being sensitive is a beautiful thing.
So
GIRL

MUCH.

Hand lettering in my wonky font. I love being an illustrator.

I will be putting them up on my Etsy shop and will have them for sale @portlandnightmarket and @portlandbazaar in December!

My design process for a Flo the Riso banner in our new art building ✏️

I used Adobe Firefly Boards to organize my sketches, references, and get real time feedback. Before this project, I thought Firefly was exclusively generative AI- turns out I was wrong! I am happy to report that no generative AI was used in this project.

Swipe through to see how I used this new tool and for a sneak peek of the banner coming soon to the Pub Studio 😍
🩷💛💚
My favorite features are mosaic for mood boards and the flexibility of the infinite screen. I was able to customize my art board size and easily move them around in groupings that made sense to me.

Moving through the design process with Boards as a home base was pretty easy to integrate into my workflow. You can copy/paste images from websites, easily insert photos, and share your work easily with friends.

Thanks to @Adobe and #CommunityxAdobe for sponsoring this project through the #AdobeCreativeApprenticeship!

Sophomore Portfolio Project 04: Nature Nerds Riso Prints

Introducing Nature Nerds, a series of riso prints for the curious ones who collect rocks, sticks, and all manner of tiny outdoor treasures! Each of the illustrations features a landscape from states I’ve called home: Idaho, California, and Oregon. Playful color and linework remind us to take a moment to pause, seek, explore, dig, and otherwise investigate our inner and outer worlds. The series encourages mindful connection to place- a means of comfort in a time when it may be hard to find it.

When it came to choosing the materials, I was drawn to the eco-friendly nature of riso printing. Soy-based ink and rice paper stencils make it a gentle printmaking option with a small footprint.
Paper options include a combination of recycled and Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified.

During the production process, I found lots of charm in the misregistration of the bright colors. In addition to designing the illustrations, this project provided a major learning opportunity in terms of riso printing and production. It was my first big riso print job! Three prints + two sizes of each = six total prints, each with 2-3 color layers. This took a lot of planning and organization in terms of preparation- and I loved it.

The result is an imperfect series of prints made for humans that want to live in a world that is warm and welcoming to everyone who crosses their path.

See ya on the trail!
