The Wyandanch Fire Company was alerted for a building fire at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on South 20th Street about 14:25 on October 18, 2026. Chief of Department Ron, First Assistant Chief Brown, and Second Assistant Chief Benitez responded first and were told numerous calls were being taken. Chief Benitez arrived first and reported smoke showing. Chief Ron arrived shorty after and took command of the scene. Upon further investigation fire was located in the basement kitchen known as Mercy Soup Kitchen and a working fire was transmitted. Engine 1-10-3 was first due and that crew stretched one line to the basement via the exterior stairs. North Babylon Engine 1-8-4 picked a hydrant across Straight Path and brought a supply line to 1-10-3. The crews from Ladder 1-10-5 and Quint 1-10-4 went to basement and first floor to check for extension and found the fire was traveling up a wall into first floor offices. The fire was knocked down quickly and contained to those areas. All searches were negative, as the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Mutual aid to the scene was provided by the North Babylon Fire Company, Deer Park and West Babylon Fire Departments. EMS coverage was provided by Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corps. The fire reportedly did not damage any of the kitchen equipment. The kitchen has provided meals for 45 years and currently provides approximately 150 hot meals a day. #wyandanchfireco #thefirenews @wyandanch_fireco @wwhac1200 @thefirenews

New article by @tommymo_fht โ€œWe Spend Thousands on Equipment, But What About Training?โ€ Walk into just about any firehouse across the country and youโ€™ll find thousands, if not millions, of dollars worth of equipment. Brand new apparatus, state-of-the-art tools, thermal imaging cameras, hydraulic rescue equipment, and the latest technology designed to make our jobs safer and more efficient. But hereโ€™s a question worth asking: Are we investing the same level of effort into the people expected to operate that equipment?

๐™ฒ๐š‘. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿน๐Ÿผ Position Based Firefighting Meets the Forward Thinking Firefighter In this episode, I break down the connection between position based firefighting and forward thinking on the fireground. From the first due truck officer to the roof firefighter and second due truck, understanding building construction, fire extension, and the relationship between exposures and apartment layouts is critical. Itโ€™s not simply about getting into position. Itโ€™s about understanding your purpose, anticipating the next problem, and staying ahead of the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Now playing on all channels. โ€”โ€”โ€” #topfloortactics #viewfromthetopfloorpodcast

โฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธA Little Too Real Right Now In The Capital Region. If your Chief chooses political agendas over the people of your Department or even worse, the people of your jurisdiction, they have failed and are guilty of conduct unbecoming of a firefighter. Pathetic. Do Your Job. Itโ€™s one thing to lose the resources needed to be proficient however standing there and doing nothing about it is pathetic. Puppets.

SUNDAY LEADERSHIP LESSONS: WHAT MAKES SOMEONE STUPID? How many times have you heard someone in the firehouse call another firefighter stupid, dumb, or an idiot? But what exactly are we using to determine whether someone is stupid? Take a mechanic who can tear apart an engine, diagnose a problem, and put it back together without thinking twice. Put that mechanic next to someone who knows nothing about engines, and the mechanic looks like a genius. Now put that same mechanic in a situation where they have no knowledge or experience. Suddenly, theyโ€™re the one who doesnโ€™t know what theyโ€™re doing. Did they become stupid? Or did we just change what weโ€™re measuring? People are different. We all have different backgrounds, experiences, strengths, and weaknesses. Someone might struggle academically but be incredible with their hands. Someone might know every department policy but struggle to communicate. Someone else might not be the strongest firefighter technically but have an incredible ability to connect with people and earn their trust. So whoโ€™s the smart one? And whoโ€™s the idiot? In the fire service, weโ€™re quick to judge people based on what WE know, what WE value, and what WE think everyone else should understand. Just because something comes easy to you doesnโ€™t mean someone else is stupid because itโ€™s difficult for them. To specify, this is not a post excusing unwilling behavior. Thatโ€™s a whole different topic, this is about someone who may need some extra help. Learn it Sunday, Lead it Monday
