35 🎈. Two months ago, I turned 35… and my wife’s water broke on my birthday. Five hours after my birthday ended, I became a dad.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m big on faith, preparation, and making sacrifices for the future.

I sold my 2006 convertible, celebrated my birthday a month early with my peanut-headed friends, rearranged my MBA classes, and listed every property I owned for sale to prepare for fatherhood.

Turns out… none of those things actually prepare you to become a dad. 😂

One of the biggest lessons my son has already been re-teaching me is the skill of relinquishing control and remaining flexible. No matter how much you plan, some of life’s greatest gifts have a way of rewriting the schedule.

This isn’t a motivational speech. I’m just here to let y’all know my son is ridiculously cute… and he’s absolutely cooking me and my wife’s sleep schedule!!😂😂

Every sleepless night has been worth it🤎🥹

Here’s to my first official public dad joke🥂😂🤣🤌🏿

My 2025 was filled with touching grass, letting go of the past (in a healthy way), and taking steps forward. 2025 had some lows, but God gave me grace to find solace in it all.

I pray that God grants all of our 2026 with continued presence, protection and steps towards our goals.

Here’s a slide/list of some of the moments I found joy in during 2025. Btw, when did IG start allowing 20 pics?😂😂

• selfie of my wife and I at a wedding
• my wife and I practicing a new sport together (tennis)
• my aunt visiting me and my other aunt from Nigeria. These two are a mix of older sisters, aunts, a mom and a grandmother to me
• spending my birthday helping my mom and my aunt clean up my late great aunt’s home in Florida
• renting a convertible for my birthday. I never really like convertibles until (RIP) BY and I was playing passenger in @joytrippin dope old school Mustang in 2015
• watching my wife pick up a new hobby of gardening in our backyard. (It didn’t last long 😂😂😂😂😂)
• going to BY’s memorial in Philadelphia. Over 20 years of friendship in this picture.
• another picture I took at the memorial with 20 to 30 years of friendship in this picture.
• me and my nephew (Jadeyah’s son) playing basketball. I didn’t realize until months later that this was the first time I babysit any of my friend’s kids. It was so trippy seeing one of my friends’s personality in their kid.
• my wife and I are going to a Cowboy Carter concert
• one of the many backyard dates my wife and I had.
• my first professional headshot. It’s a great picture, but I crack up laughing every time I see it 😂😂
• ended up getting a convertible. 2006 Lexus sc430 (PBE). Had to sell it 3 months later because of potholes 😂
• trying out a new hobby with new classmates/friends
• going to a gala with some new classmates/friends
• went to Nigeria this December to visit my only surviving grandparent (93 years old). He waited to have breakfast and dinner with me every day. He also assigned me a plot of land to build on in the future.
• I thought it would take the Spurs one me year to start contending, but we’re here NOWWW
• inspo for future village home
• lil bro & cousin

Excuse any typos lol

Chibundu Boyz link: Thank you God for facilitating me and my baby bro linking back home in Nigeria for the first time since he was deployed to Hawaii. @choomm, it was a blessing to see how much you’ve grown and weird to see myself in you lololol. I’m excited to see where your culinary journey will go once you’re done with the Navy.

Fun fact: whenever my baby bro liked a restaurant in Nigeria he made it a point to go into EVERY kitchen and introduce himself to the head chef. I’ll forever be inspired by your grind. Love, big bro

All my life, I’ve been taught about Africa. The various nations, the cultures, but most importantly, the people and the history. I was taught that it was where I was from, at some point of our family history, free people taken by force and made to live on a land that was not ours. But as much as I had learned about the continent, I never actually imagined I’d see it myself. ———————————————————————— Coming to Nigeria to close out the year has shown me so much that I never seen before. One of the most important things I’ve taken from this trip is how real the power of manifestation is. There were many times this year where this vacation didn’t happen, and at times even I didn’t think it would come true. But putting that energy in the world consistently brought it to fruition, and I’m truly blessed from it. And probably the second most important thing I leave Lagos with is that Nigeria, Africa, is HOME for us. From the people and the faces you think you’ve seen before, from how the sun shines on your skin, to this sense of unknown familiarity for a land I’ve never visited that I couldn’t seem to shake as it felt like I’ve been here before. It felt familiar. It felt like home. ———————————————————————— I hope that every single Black person on the planet can experience a trip to Africa. I can definitely speak to Nigeria in saying that i’m coming back stateside a different man from it. And it’s a trip that I look forward making for years to come. Took some photos during the journey so I wouldn’t soon forget where I’ve been, but I doubt that could happen anyway. See you all during the next “Detty December.” Lagos, Nigeria. January ’20.
