Sometimes the most intense moments happen before the take.

A shadow moves beneath the surface, a giant arapaima comes into view, and suddenly every cast has a target. Sight fishing for a fish of this scale is one of the experiences that makes Pirarucu unlike anywhere else in the Amazon.

Seeing it is one thing. Casting to it with a fly rod is another.

Frames from “Pirarucu.”

Filmed in the Brazilian Amazon, Pirarucu follows a unique fly-fishing experience built around one of the Amazon’s most iconic fish — the arapaima.

A film about the place, the challenge of finding and catching these incredible fish, and the raw experience of fly fishing for one of the largest freshwater species on the planet — with conservation at the heart of keeping this fishery protected for the future.

Full film on YouTube — link in bio.

History is never mass-produced!
Today, we want to show you, in the most real way and with no photographic editing, the pieces we proudly acquired from the private collection of the legend Les Shaw, and which we fish with today.
With them, we give meaning to the true generational handover, proving that classic aerospace technology and pure craftsmanship have nothing to envy in modern technology—quite the contrary! We stand by the refinement of bespoke craftsmanship, certified by name, number, and the seal of British royalty.
What makes us most proud is instilling in the new generations of wild anglers—my 6-year-old son, weighing 24 kg—that some stories are simply priceless, and the mass market will never be able to replicate them.
There is no greater honour for the craftsmen of Hardy than to return their work to the river and give it the life for which it was created; leaving them locked away was not the objective of their manufacture.
We are talking about genuine masterpieces of British engineering born between September 1981 and April 1982: our Hardy Reservoir 9'6” line 7/8 (114g) and the Hardy Boron 10’ line 8 (120g).
Structures of military aerospace-grade braided boron combined with high-modulus resins, decorated with whippings in British green, genuine 22-carat gold thread tippings, and select wooden reel seats with polished bronze hardware. Unique gems with the technical specifications painstakingly inked by hand onto the raw boron by the master craftsman himself.

While catalogues saturate the riverbanks with identical and soulless factory-line products, we put decades of traditional engineering to work in the currents of the rivers of Spain to tame the big ones with pure palming.
For those who only understand passing trends and catalogues, we leave you with the original factory tags bearing the seal of English royalty: "three feathers over the crown of Wales that make your eyes shine".

If you have 4 minutes to spare please watch this incredible film of Manu one of the native guides from the Tsimane tribe casting a fly rod for the very first time! These people are amazing. Manu has been poling canoes with fly anglers for the last two years at Pluma Lodge and has been clearly watching and learning and indeed taking a huge interest in the way we are all fishing. He is only used to using a bow and arrow to fish with no fancy tackle or Costa sunglasses but just look at what happened when I asked him if he would like to have a go!! Unbelievable ❤️❤️🎣🎣

So! Second day of our extended trip to Pluma as we wait for our plane to leave from Santa Cruz!! The earlier posts were all the best bits but man there have been some unpostable moments too!🤣 The disabled toilet in Sau Paulo story can only be shared personally 😳 Trying to book new flights home with no phone signal and both banks crashing their apps is another. Looks like no way out again today…….just carry on drinking! I hope the next group stuck in Santa Cruz have brought a bar resupply although the river doesn’t look quite perfect!🎣🎣🤬😎
Starting and ending the trip with no luggage was definitely the harbinger of more s}#t to come!! I’ll be back but might leave it a little while so I can forget the technical issues and just remember the fantastic fishing, people and the amazing river system ❤️❤️

Great to tick off both Pacu and Yatorana from my bucket list❤️ The guides were as amazing as ever the lodge itself was perfect as usual. Thanks again to all the team at untamedangling and to the great group of other anglers for all the laughs!
