THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY JUST STOP THIS THING!”

We’ve been having an absolute blast pairing the NOVA 4.5 with a bladed jig lately. The thin tapered tail creates an erratic hunting action in open water that triggers some truly violent strikes.

Then add in the embedded glass rattle calling fish in from a distance and this combo becomes a serious problem all summer long.

If you haven’t tried the NOVA on the back of a bladed jig yet, you’re missing out. Put this combo to work and hang on.

Everyone assumes winter fishing means slowing way down, and while that’s true in many situations, it’s absolutely not the case when you’re targeting actively feeding fish.

Our good friends @mikeybalzz and @eddie.krauth have dialed in an incredibly efficient way to target these fish by pairing heavy tungsten with the Echo. This approach allows you to get your bait down fast and put it directly in front of fish that are moving quickly and chasing bait, giving you the opportunity to capitalize when they’re fired up and ready to eat.

Learn how to replicate this pattern on your home lake in our latest blog, “The Winter Bite Most Anglers Miss.”

Two trips. Two 20+ lb bags.
One finesse worm idea that elevated the technique.

After catching 24 lbs of Lake Lanier spotted bass, followed by a 25 lb bag of Tennessee smallmouth, all on the Neko rig, we set out to create the best possible finesse worm and refine the technique to a new level.

The first question was, how can you improve upon such a staple of fishing like the worm?
The first answer is to solve a problem.

Neko rigging is very effective, but it can get costly by losing expensive tungsten nail weights that are either cast off after the worm has become worn down or shaken loose while fighting a fish.

We were able to effectively solve this issue by utilizing the same proprietary plastic that we use for our Echo and Prodigy lineup. In the same way that you do not need glue to keep the ECHO or PRODIGY on a jighead, the NOVA completely envelops the nail weight and greatly reduces the chance that it will fall out during your day on the water.

The next question we asked ourselves was, “How can we trigger more bites?”

Once again, narrowing from the success of the PRODIGY and ECHO line, we embedded a small glass rattle to alert predators of the NOVA’s presence in the water column. This rattle emits a clicking sound similar to a crawfish clicking on the bottom, and it greatly enhanced the response from the fish we were targeting.

The final improvement we added to the NOVA was to include a coffee scent. This added scent not only made the fish hold on to the worm longer for better hooksets, but it also masked any scent we may have left on the worm ourselves when rigging.

The NOVA excels on the Neko rig, and during testing a massive 6.3 lb PB spot was caught rigging it in this manner (so much more on this later), but we have also found many unique and effective ways to rig the NOVA that we can’t wait to share with you.

CAST BFS Braid was developed to cast small lures extremely far, but one of its most effective and often overlooked uses is pairing it with your favorite Neko rig. We’ve been having a blast running Grape BFS on both spinning and BFS casting reels for Neko fishing, and the performance has been outstanding.
