Looking to celebrate Senior Night with a fitting result, Foley (5-4, 4-2) rallied on multiple occasions but ultimately fell short against Mary Montgomery (6-3).

“This is still the team that’s been dominating this region for four years,” Foley head coach Bryan Moore said of Mary Montgomery. “They have really good players, but we missed two touchdowns early, which would have made it 14-12 at half. So I’m proud of the resilience with us being a little short-handed, and for our kids to fight like this speaks volumes about where our program is.”

“You’re going to get one of those big, physical teams that’s going to line up and run the football," Moore added while talking about the upcoming 6A playoffs. "So I’m never happy with a loss, ever. But now we know our team can compete in a game like this, and ultimately over two weeks we’ll keep getting better.”

Following Week 9’s action, the latest update to our Baldwin County football standings features eight teams above .500 and a combined record of 58-46 from the 13 squads.

Gulf Shores remains atop the list following its dominant road win over Spanish Fort, while Bayside Academy tied Orange Beach in second place after the Admirals took down Mobile Christian while the Makos were on a bye.

Daphne, Fairhope and Spanish Fort are deadlocked at 6-2 after the Trojans fell to Mary Montgomery and the Pirates cruised past Davidson. Foley and red-hot St. Michael Catholic loom just behind, with three matchups between the top eight teams in the standings still to come.

Only two more weeks remain in the high school football regular season…

Less than three minutes into its game with the Robertsdale Golden Bears, Foley senior Jackson Dixon was running all over the field to help spot the Lions a 10-0 lead over the home team.

They never looked back.

Foley scored 24 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second and cruised to a 52-7 Class 6A Region 1 win at Robertsdale.

The Lions are now 4-2 in the region and 5-3 overall, while the Golden Bears fell to 1-6 in region play and 1-7 on the season.

Foley's win and Mary Montgomery’s 20-19 victory over Daphne create a log jam at the top of the region standings, but it appears the four of eight teams that will make the playoffs are set. The final rankings of that top four are not.
