Happy Mommy & Me Monday from Glacier, Folsom and their moms! We had our second meetup yesterday in the mountains near Lake Tahoe, CA and went for a hike. Our first was on the coast in Oregon last spring.

Glacier & Folsom are so much alike, the same age and incredibly well matched in energy and play styles. Lucky for them, their humoms also have an amazing connection!

So grateful, once again, for the magic of dogstagram and the friendships we’ve made despite geographical differences!

🚨 Watch Out for Salmon Poisoning Disease!

Sharing my cousin @followfolsom story to help spread awareness for anyone traveling in the PNW.

Last weekend we took Folsom to play in the river…he was running around, splashing, and chewing on sticks. He’s not much of a swimmer, but he loved wading in the water.

Four days later, everything changed. He crashed, no energy, no appetite, gagging, loose stool, and clearly sore all over.

We rushed him to the vet and found out he had Salmon Poisoning Disease… a serious and potentially fatal condition unique to the Pacific Northwest.

It usually happens when a dog eats raw fish, but apparently in coastal river areas, other carriers like snails or contaminated sticks can transmit it too. Folsom didn’t eat any fish, but he could’ve ingested something while playing.

Our vet alone had over 20 cases this weekend.

If you’re traveling in the PNW with your dog, be on the lookout for:

• Sudden lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Muscle soreness or stiffness

With medication, it’s treatable, but left untreated, it can be fatal within two weeks of exposure. So get your pup to the vet ASAP!

We’re not out of the woods yet, but Folsom is on meds and the vet expects a full recovery.

We had no idea this disease existed, especially as travelers and I know a lot of you are out here adventuring with your pups too.

Stay safe and spread the word to anyone you know in this area with dogs! 🐾

We met up with our dear Instagram friends @followfolsom for a beach play date and Glacier acted as if Folsom was his long lost brother! Folsom has been healing from a leg injury, so he was mostly dodging G’s energy, but it was clear they are best bros for life. Already excited for snow meetups in Tahoe this winter 🌊🩵🐺
