The Knave and the Moon 🌙🗡️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Spoiler free review

𝓔𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂 𝓭𝓪𝔂 𝓲𝓼 𝓪 𝓷𝓮𝔀 𝓯𝓵𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻 🌼

I’ve finally come to a rating for this book. I was initially feeling conflicted and saddened as I didn’t love it as much as book 1. I thought that several parts of the book were quite predictable and at times boring. Whilst I understand that it’s a dark mirror of book 1, it didn’t grip me like book 1 did.

Ultimately I think the change that caused the greatest shift in my enjoyment of the book was the change in stakes, that was a combination of plot points that I’ll touch on later, and the characterisation of the villan. I didn’t exactly feel like the stakes in book 2 were high despite knowing that it was. I think the villan was quite immauture, and whilst that was likely intentional for the characterisation, I don’t think that it read consistently to their characterisation in book 1. It almost feels like their character regressed to a childlike or silly quality that constrasted to their smart calculative persona in book 1. I still loved the writing and the worldbuilding.

Whilst we didn’t get any plot reveals that shocked me to the magnitude of book 1, understanding the history of the sprites was really interesting. I wish we got more of this side of worldbuilding, especially if the plot was intentionally planned to be a reflection of book 1. I also really like Maude as a character. She is the most honourable female knight and surprisingly, I felt more emotion for her than any other character in this book. I felt okay about the ending, I like some things and disliked others. Spoiler review on the next slide

Overall it was a good conclusion, but not quite as satisfying as I hoped for.

Spoiler review/added thoughts

I didn’t expect Rory to recover his memories so quickly. I thought we were going to see him fall in love with Sybil all over again, and that would’ve been so beautiful to see. It just felt like it happened too easily, hence the fall in the stakes. Sybil was drugged for a large majority of the book, which sucked, and made me reflect on how Benji

Threshing Day. Yes, I accidentally set fire to one of my artificial flowers during this photo shoot. Honestly seems fitting for a dragon book.

I loved reading these short stories of so many characters experience during threshing day. It really gave a good insight into so many different characters backgrounds and I loved getting to know some of the other dragons a bit more.

Now for the art! Full colour page art if each dragon for their chapter, absolutely GORGEOUS. It stepped up the experience of reading these stories to a whole new level.

Have you read Threshing Day?
