Everybody wants to play the heartthrob, the hero...

I'm not here to save the day.
I'd rather be the man behind the chaos,
the reason the day needs saving.

Say hello to the bad guy 😈

‘Drip or Drown’ by Gunna, 2017.

This song was playing in my head as I was trying to fall asleep sleep last night smh.

According to Atlanta rapper, ‘Drip or Drown,’ Gunna’s debut EP, would serve as an ‘appetizer’ for ‘Drip Season 3,’ his iconic 2018 mixtape. As with almost all of his music up and until that point, the project is entirely produced by frequent collaborator Wheezy. On the EP’s title track, which we see here, Gunna raps about expensive clothing & jewelry with high fashion or ‘drip’ a being core theme of his early music. The song would take off, becoming one of his earliest hits and getting the ball rolling for Gunna’s eventual push into the mainstream.

The artist himself, Gunna, Gunna, hails from College Park, Georgia and is widely known for his pioneering melodic flows and close association to Young Thug & Lil Baby. He would see mounting success with his Drip Season mixtape series from 2016-2018 before the release of his monumental collaborative mixtape ‘Drip Harder’ with Lil Baby. His momentum would later continue with his debut album ‘Drip or Drown 2’ in 2019, his sophomore album ‘WUNNA’ in 2020 and the final instalment of his Drip Season mixtape series ‘DS4EVER’ in 2022.

His momentum would be halted shortly after this 2022 release as Ie would arrested along with Young Thug and 20+ other members of the ‘Young Stoner Life’ record label under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). He would be released later the same year however he would face controversial ‘snitch’ allegations and see many of his former peers distance themselves from him publicly.

“So what’s your REAL job when you aren’t doing audio?” umm… audio is my real job 😎 The amount of times I get asked that question on a regular basis is actually crazy. It’s never ill-intended, but there seems to be this widespread assumption that pursuing your dreams has to be a side hustle - that the work you’re actually passionate about isn’t financially viable enough to pursue full time, but it definitely can be! It’s certainly not easy, but let my life serve as the proof that it’s possible. Build your life around what you love! 🎤🎧
