Episode 653 - U.S. Open Beer Championship Illinois Winners 2026

🏅Now taking a victory lap around your go-to podcast app

The U.S. Open Beer Championship, started in 2009, is the third-largest competition that recognizes and rewards beers from all over the world - and this year, Illinois brewers collected a considerable amount of hardware. We drink through five medal-winning beers while talking about the competition itself and looking back on some past years’ winners as well. Also, Craig is thrust into an awkward “you-make-the-call” situation; Ryan recaps his U.S.O.B.C. mini-taproom tour, and we want to know exactly what makes a beer “extreme.”

🌴 Let the Trade Winds roll in.

Bursting with ripe mango and passionfruit, this fruited golden ale is bright, juicy, and endlessly refreshing. Its light body and crisp finish make it the perfect pint for sunny afternoons, patio hangs, or your next brewery visit.

Now pouring on draft @forbiddenrootchicago and @cultivatebyforbiddenroot

🍺 Pair it with our warm, salted pretzel @forbiddenrootchicago in West Town for the ultimate beer-and-bites combo, or enjoy it alongside the Fried Lion’s Mane Mushroom Sandwich @cultivatebyforbiddenroot —the tropical fruit notes and crisp finish are a perfect match.
