It was great to attend a ‘Roundtable’ at Parliament yesterday to discuss all things #Repair🧰. Thanks to @deirdre.costigan.mp and @restartproject for hosting and organising. I fed back on the positive outcomes from the UKs 1st ‘Repair Voucher’ Trial that @connectnlwa funded. Headlines incl.- 🎟️It was popular and reached a diverse audience 🤩There was immediate and longer term benefits 📣Consistent promotion was required 🧰Repair shops need support I and others raised at the ‘Roundtable’- 🧰Repairability- we need Government to act and to introduce enhanced product design standards specifically expanding and strengthening ecodesign regulation to cover all electronic products. Making it easier to reach internal products parts to repair and to source quality spare parts. 👩‍🏭Education & Training- there is an emerging skills shortage, especially in the non-tech repair sector. We need new education and training routes to help fill the estimated 80,000 jobs in this sector by 2040. Is the Alan Miburn review of ‘Young People & Work’ and Andy Burnham Vocational GCSEs push opportunities to help fill this gap? 📑’Circular Economy♻️ Growth Plan’- we need this long overdue and important document with its policy directions published- asap! I’m very proud of the pioneering work and appetite on ‘repair’ that I helped introduce and embed across Waltham Forest and north London over the last 10+ years, when we held hugely oversubscribed- we had queues out of the door😉- ‘Repair Cafes’ in @stjohns.community Church Hall, in #Leytonstone, as ‘repair’ plays a critical role in the ‘Circular Economy♻️’ and therefore in responding to the climate challenges our planet🌍 faces. #circulareconomy♻️ #repair

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at FRP! ♻️💚 We had an amazing time at the Lea Bridge Library, where we ran a Give & Take as part of the Waltham Forest Reuse and Repair Fair. With your help, we moved nearly 450 kg of donated items - including 15 kg of waste. 🙌 Over 400 kg of items found a new home! Thank you. ♻️ Quick tip: Old cables, chargers, and wires? Don’t put them to our donations. Look out for the special recycling bins provided by Waltham Forest Council at these events. It was so lovely to see so many of you joining Forest Fixers and Dr. Bike for electric and bike repairs. 🚲🔧 So many young people got their bikes repaired and learnt how to do that as well. Huge thank you to Laura Martinez for the beautiful photos and the artist Julia Miranda for the drawing of the event. Back at our Leytonstone warehouse, we were thrilled to host the talented local artist John Lord @lord9851 once again 🎨 This time, John returned to create more of his beautiful paintings using our reclaimed paint - and just like last year, you absolutely loved it! Thank you, John, for sharing your time, talent, and creative process with us 💛 During this time, we also gave away 30 litres of paint and sold even more! Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by - we love seeing what you do with it. 🧵 Waiting for our next fabric sale? Make sure you're signed up to our newsletter or following us here - we’ll share the date as soon as it's confirmed. 🖼️ If you’re interested in purchasing one of John Lord’s paintings, feel free to reach out to him directly! 📍Want to visit us? We’re open in Leytonstone: Tues–Thurs | 10am – 4:30pm And in Walthamstow: Fridays | 11am – 4:30pm Saturdays | 10am – 2pm We’d love to see you soon! #FRPLondon #ReuseReduceRecycle #WalthamForest #GiveAndTake #SustainableLiving #CommunityArt #JohnLordArt #RepairAndReuse

Thank you for being part of this month’s Reuse & Repair Fair at Lea Bridge Library! 💚♻️ What a day full of community spirit, creative fixes, and meaningful conversations around sustainability. We loved seeing kids take toys home, fix bikes, and repair electronics. You brought your broken bits and left with things restored and skills shared. 🙌 A massive thank you to everyone who joined us, took part, and made it such a special event and to the brilliant team of repairers, makers, and volunteers who made it all happen. 💫 Special thanks to Lea Bridge Library for hosting us in such a welcoming and inspiring space. Together, we’ve saved over 4000kg from landfill since March 2024, proof that small actions, done together, have a big impact. Let’s keep working together on this. 🗓️Date for next fair is...
