Tiger Woods in the late 90s.

Oversized polos. Full-cut pants. Simple colors. Sweaters. Visors. And a whole lot of Nike.

Tiger turned pro in 1996 and almost immediately became one of the defining faces of Nike Golf. By 1997, Sunday red was becoming iconic, and the early TW era was underway.

Golf clothes have gotten slimmer, stretchier and more technical since then — but I think we lost a little something along the way.

I stumbled across a vintage Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport Mil-Spec putter listed on Facebook Marketplace in Costa Rica for just $78 USD. At that price, it sounded almost too good to be true.

I drove out with a magnet and my authentication checklist to inspect the 340g carbon steel head, the factory sole stamps, the original AM&E "Art of Putting" headcover, and the frayed gold crown shaft band.
