D.C. Does Dischord

Pulled this out to spin and thought it looked cool under its own poster. There are still some copies of these floating around that I'm sure Greg from Celebration Summer would love to sell you.

Just like yo mama, our #dcpunk and DIY section has never looked better. A heaving, heady blend of the fresh, the freaky, and the fabled... also just like yo mama.

Come check it out, especially if you happen to be part of this monument, or should be. And if she's not too busy, see if you can bring yo mama.

Well, the day has finally arrived. No, not the day of the event but rather, the day before the event. The day when we ask you all to kindly tell everyone you know about this new Washington DC music festival. And, by everyone, of course we aren’t speaking in hyperbolic language. Let’s pack this event so the bands play in front of a full house and the vendors are able to leave with a much lighter load than what they brought with them.

But, it’s not just a music festival. We’ve got a record fair happening at the same event! And, some really great vendors onsite for your shopping needs. And, let’s not forget that @hometownsounds will be ringing in the event with a DJ set.

The inaugural Dig Dug Dig fest is this weekend in our nation’s capital, only at @pennsocialdc on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

We are so excited to debut the Dig Dug Dig Record Fair at this event. We’ve got some really great DC area record vendors coming out to bring you all their well curated collection of vinyl for you to salivate over (yes, bring your purses and wallets, folks!).

From @fox5dc to @insidehook to @washingtonpost to @dcfray to @washingtonianmag to @dcist to @washingtoncitypaper there’s a lot to talk about when @byrdlandrecords is part of the conversation. Byrdland Records is a vinyl records and music store from the team behind Songbyrd Music House!

In addition to Byrdland Records being at Dig Dug Dig, we’ve got everybody’s favorite record store in Greenbelt, MD, slinging records with us. That’s right, @sonidos.musicshop will be there, too.

And, then, there’s that rad record store in Chevy Chase, MD, that’s always hosting some sort of DC’s best events: @artsoundlanguagebooks

Don’t get me started on @vinylxxo who specializes in Japanese pressings. How cool is that??!!!

@dan_e_byrdmusic was recently recognized by @hrmusicfest by having a stellar collection of vinyl priced at only $5. Will that box be at Dig Dug Dig 🤔

Who here in the District isn’t familiar with @dischordrecords ? I imagine very few of you are not familiar with this label and the positive effect it has had on the DC community which has spread all around the world. @forloveofrecords released a compilation on vinyl of current DC bands paying tribute to their fave Dischord bands. Those records will be for sale.

We’re not done, yet. We’ve got @mezzanine.vinyl onboard, too. They’re very active in the local DC vinyl community with hosting vinyl related events, too. To include, record fairs and more.

@1200.flavors will have their stack of records for sale but don’t count on there being 1,200 records onsite at their table. That’s a lot of records to haul.

@recordexchangesilverspring @rhythmlingorecords and @buyroms will be at this event, too. I’m running out of characters for this post but I assure you that these 3 vendors have what you want and will be bringing it this wkn!

Greg Raelson aka @forloveofrecords wears a lot of hats. When Greg isn’t holding it down on bass with the rhythm section of Washington DC’s “Anthemic punk/emo” band @celebrationsummer you’ll find Greg releasing rad music on his label For Love of Records.

Greg recently got a bunch of DC bands together to contribute songs for a @dischordrecords tribute album.

Will Lennon with @washingtoncitypaper penned the following:

“D.C.-based label For the Love of Records is putting on a show to celebrate the release of their new compilation album. Entitled Yesterday & Today: DC Does Dischord, the LP is a tribute to the area’s hardcore punk heritage by some of the DMV’s most exciting artists. In case you’re new in town: Part of the reason D.C. occupies such a prominent place in punk history is Dischord Records. Started by former members of the band Teen Idles in the early ’80s, Dischord was initially run out of bassist Ian MacKaye’s parents’ house in Arlington. At Dischord, record sleeves were glued together by hand, and DIY was simultaneously a necessity and a quasi-religion. The label exploded into prominence with the founding of MacKaye’s next band Minor Threat, which released their first album in 1981. Inspired by another D.C. band, Bad Brains, Minor Threat are perhaps as iconic to D.C. as the Clash are to London and Black Flag are to Los Angeles. But Minor Threat and other Dischord bands were different beasts entirely, punk boiled down to its austere core, virulently opposed to all “rock ’n’ roll bullshit” as Dischord band Government Issue once put it. Thanks to the scene centered around Dischord, the District became a hive of iconoclastic experimentation. D.C. hardcore became a genre unto itself, and later Fugazi (a sort of Dischord supergroup composed of members from Deadline, One Last Wish, and Minor Threat) blended punk with reggae and funk to establish post-hardcore.

Greg will be at Dig Dug Dig with copies of this compilation for your consideration.
