After years of being constantly busy and rarely switching off, a slower pace and creating a home that feels calm, warm and full of light has done wonders for the soul 🤍

I had the pleasure of hosting Light in Context a few weeks ago, an intimate evening at ZOEI in collaboration with @aboutspacelighting, where we had the privilege of hearing from @jodiemeier_lightingdesign as she shared the lighting design intent behind our home.

The response was honestly overwhelming, and we ended up having to cap attendance, which made the evening feel even more special and intimate.

We talked about proportion, materiality and how a space feels at different times of the day. The tiny decisions most people will never consciously notice, but somehow make a space feel completely right.

One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of layering light across different planes to create depth and bring out the emotion of a space.

Noticing what is lit.
And, perhaps even more importantly, what isn’t.

The biggest thank you to Charlotte from @formr.au, who was incredibly generous in donating one of her handmade sculptures AND a voucher as our lucky door prizes. 🤍 Honestly, how lucky am I to have somehow built this amazing little community around design, building and a genuine curiosity to learn more from each other.

A huge thank you to every single person who joined us and contributed to such a beautiful evening of conversation, learning and inspiration. And of course, to Jodie and the About Space team for sharing your knowledge so generously. 🤍

If you’d be interested in attending another intimate design workshop at ZOEI, send me a message. I’d love to know what you’d like us to explore next.

The details that make a lighting design feel effortless are often the ones you never notice.

This part of the series explores the decisions behind the scenes - the layers of light, hidden solutions and careful placement that allow the architecture and interiors to remain the focus.

Because great lighting isn’t about filling a space with light.

It’s about understanding where light is needed, where it isn’t, and how it can shape the way a home is experienced.

A beautifully designed home deserves a lighting approach that is just as considered.

For this project, the focus wasn’t on adding more light - it was on creating the right light. Revealing texture, enhancing natural materials, guiding movement and allowing the architecture to remain the hero.

From the first impression of the entry, to the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, every lighting decision was made to support how the home is experienced - from day through to night.

Part 2 will explore the details behind the scenes - the problem solving, hidden layers and decisions that allow the lighting to feel effortless.

The best projects happen when there’s trust, clear communication and a respect for the process. It lets artists spend more time creating your perfect sculpture.

In love with this craft 🖤 Art, sculptures, creation! I can’t believe I started my first art business when I was 26, but I didn’t have the experience I have now and I knew it was a sign to learn more about the world before branching back out in the art space. 🤎 Tomorrow I’ll be part of my first exhibition in 10 years. 😌
