Sir Velo II aka The Hot Rod aka The Lambo bike. Bit of a journey to get back on an S5 after Julian ruined my day, but alas, WE’RE BACK.

Huge thanks to @cervelo for their generosity, @fortstreetcycle for doing the tear down, build back up, and just generally being a place that feels like home, more than a shop. Special mention to Jordan at Fort Street for actually doing the work and being so tedious about it (I’d know, I hovered over him 👀), @m.b.bikes for helping me take my vision for the fork from an idea to reality. Incredible work!! @oakbaybikes for facilitating the warranty claim and being so friendly and helpful, and of course all my cycling friends for the support and encouragement through the whole process.

I’m such a lucky guy. I love this community. Can’t wait to put many, many kms on this bike!

If you didn’t know (because I didn’t) bicycle insurance exists. DM me if you want more details but both my bikes are now fully insured and it’s quite reasonably priced 🫡

Cheers!!

IRONMAN World Championship, Kona: Race Report🌺🌋
Arriving in Hawaii just 3 days before the race made acclimating a massive challenge. Even with all the sauna and steam room prep at home, standing on the Big Island made me realize just how real the conditions were going to be! I relied heavily on my past training blocks in Mexico and Marbella to steady my nerves—and that mental toughness saved my day.
🏊‍♀️ The Swim:
Heavy rain overnight gave us hope for cool weather, but Kona had other plans. A mass start with three women’s age groups together was pure chaos. Between the heavy ocean swells, the congestion, and fighting off sea sickness, I was quickly in survival mode.
🚴‍♀️ The Bike:
Once I hit T1, the first 50K felt amazing. Then, reality hit: brutal crosswinds, crushing heat and humidity (96%). Even though I wanted to push harder, my priority was hydration, fueling, and keeping my core temperature down. The climb to Hawi was no joke, and descending with those unpredictable wind gusts was wild. By T2, I was so ready to run.
🏃‍♀️ The Run:
The first 10K felt great despite stomach cramps, but with 30K+ to go, pacing was everything. Palani Hill led into the never-ending Queen K highway—so long, hot, and grueling. I thought I’d never see the Energy Lab turnaround, but I kept fueling and cooling down. With 12K left, my stomach finally settled. As the sun set, it felt like an invisible hand was pushing me forward. The last 5K was a true mental battle—so close yet so far—but finally, the finish line appeared and I heard the words: “Klaudia Laszlo, you are an IRONMAN!” 😭✨ Pure magic. A dream come true.
I feel incredibly blessed to compete on the world stage and so grateful for the health and support to achieve this. Massive thank you to my family, friends, and the volunteers—I couldn’t have done it without you. ❤️
While you always want to be a bit faster, I am so proud of sticking to my plan and conquering Kona!
🇨🇦 Official Results:
⏱️ Time: 11:46:51
🏆 Age Group: 37th (W 45-49)
🍁 Country Rank: 5th Canadian in AG

so, what’s next for the road bike?

there are so many possible categories of road bike right now: race bike, endurance bike, aero bike, all-road bike, urban/commuter/wet-weather bike.
with the surging popularity of the “do-it-all” or double-duty gravel bike, maybe the industry should take a harder look at what the average road rider actually wants from their bike.

we think there’s a new category of road frame quietly gaining legs.
we’ve coined it: aero endurance.

aero tube shapes sculpted by wind tunnel, geometry built by forums and community consensus.
high stack. y-bars. steep seat angle. lower bottom bracket. bigger tyre clearances.
basically, all the things that happen when you stop designing a bike around professional road racing and start designing one around how people actually want to ride.

because yeah, you want to go fast.
so the frame needs to be aero.
but you also want to shoehorn the biggest road tyre you can fit in there for comfortmaxxing.

you want to ride fast morning bunchies, but also take the bike paths on the evening commute home. there’s a random stretch of gravel you like to chop, but you don’t really need a gravel bike for it.

you want UDH. you want removable braze-ons in case you decide to experiment with 1x XPLR. but you also want to be able to throw a 2x Di2 groupset back on when R9300 finally arrives.

you accept that you probably need to sit a little more upright so you can ride 100km+ without your back, neck and hands filing a formal complaint.
but you don’t want the bike to look like you’ve given up.

that’s the important bit.
aero endurance isn’t about making an endurance bike faster.
it’s about asking whether an endurance bike needs to look like an endurance bike in the first place.

the modern road rider doesn’t necessarily want maximum race-bike aggression or maximum gravel-bike versatility.

they want the meme bike.

a bike that can do almost everything, goes stupid fast on the road, fits comically large tyres, has progressive geometry that ticks all the boxes... and still looks like something you’d want to post on instagram.

what features do you need for your next bike?

RBC GranFondo 2026

Went in w zero expectations and a training plan that my Garmin watch hated me for. @harleyderkson pushed me to start further up at the front. Found a solid but small group early on and we worked hard for each other. Ended up doing what I feel is incredibly well given everything. Stats posted on the last slide ➡️

Beautiful weekend of riding. Thanks Harley and @penelope.clark.hair for hanging out w me for 6hrs while we waited for my shuttle 🫶🏼 (or rather, letting me hangout w you at your hotel pool 😎)

WHO WANTS TO JOIN NEXT YEAR!? 🙌🏻

Summer Cyclocross Hits Different

Was over on the mainland, so thought I’d get a head start and dive into the @lm__cx Trout Cross.

10 minute ride from home and a park I grew up at #nostalgia

Definitely should’ve had a bottle cage on for how hot it was but luckily @oliviafaetz is an amazing soigneur and passed me water every other lap to keep me from overheating

Super grateful to the family and friends who showed up and cheered and heckled

Feeling confident going into the first @crossontherock race this weekend. Let’s see if that translates to good legs!
