Daisy Pullman (she/her) is a Writing Consultant in the Centre for Scholarly Communication (CSC) and a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (Sustainability). Her research examines the environmental history of the Okanagan ecoregion by comparing divergent trajectories of landscape change and conservation politics in the US and Canada. Through the CSC, Daisy provides one-on-one consultations for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at every stage of their writing journey. She helps clients identify and achieve their specific goals while developing their wider writing skills. Daisy is also excited to bring her extensive experience teaching English as an additional language to the CSC. She co-hosts biweekly English Conversation Circle (snacks and coffee provided!) and is available for English Development appointments, where researchers can practice their academic and conversational English skills. "A common misconception about academic writing is that you need to be in the mood or feel inspired to write. I have learned that inspiration comes eventually; sometimes you just need to sit down and start writing!" - Daisy Pullman See the link in our bio to explore the support available through the CSC: csc.ok.ubc.ca. Undergraduate students Regan Nguyen and Yurika Oda are mapping medicine production in plants. 🪴🌱⁣ ⁣ Some painkillers and cancer treatments rely on compounds that currently require destroying massive quantities of specific trees to produce. Regan and Yurika are working in Dr. Thu-Thuy Dang’s biochemistry lab to change that, mapping how plants make these compounds so they can be produced more sustainably.⁣ ⁣ Learn more via the link in our bio.

Your major, your Sonny Angel 👼🏼 (UBC Sonny Angel sticker illustrated by UBCO alum, @kellygrace.art 💙) You’re always up to date with online trends and celebrity moments. You probably just asked someone for their Letterboxd… You’re forever giving book recs and quoting niche historical literature. You can usually be found people watching and you’re a great adaptor. You’re the “wait I can fix it” friend. A logical problem solver. You’re constantly analyzing the behaviour of those around you and know way too much about Freud. You’re very outdoorsy and have an overly detailed explanation for organisms. You’re probably at the gym instead of class and you can be very competitive. You’re great at noticing things others may not. And you love to unpack the latest pop culture moments. You haven’t slept in days and live off of coffee. You’re also a great problem solver. You have perfect looking notes and you’re great at making complicated things seem easy. Networking is EVERYTHING. You’re also a natural-born leader. You’re the organized and responsible one in your friend group. You also feel like you’ve been at the hospital more than home lately. You know an alarming amount of animal facts. You can also be very adventurous.

Congratulations to W⚽️ Maria Georgacacos and W⛳️ Ayda Matthews for being named this week’s Athletes of the Week powered by Meal Prep For You!! Maria Georgacacos scored both match-winning goals over the weekend, completing her brace off a deflection from a UNBC defender to lift UBCO to a 3-2 victory, before finding the back of the net two days later in their 3-0 win against UFV, both assisted by her sister Eleni Georgacacos. Her performances helped the Heat earn a crucial six points as they look to make a late-season push for a playoff spot. Competing at her first Canada West Golf Championships, first-year golfer Ayda Matthews finished one stroke away from the podium, carding an eight-over-par 150 over two rounds to place fourth overall and earn her Canada West First Team All-Star honours. Her tournament performance played a key role in a program milestone, as the Heat women’s golf team captured their fourth consecutive conference silver medal. 📸 @kaczur_photography @thompsonnmedia
