💗💚 Hair care is an act of love!

Yesterday, Alpha Delta Lambda Omega Chapter helped set up for Foster Love Project’s Excellent Hair Care Workshop, and today, we were excited to be there for the live workshop! Led by Tamiah Bridgett-Alexander, the workshop helped caregivers build confidence in caring for curly and coily hair, with guidance on washing, detangling, styling, and maintaining healthy natural hair.

We’re grateful to help support this welcoming space for learning and connection for children and families in foster and kinship care.

Every crown deserves care, and every child deserves to feel confident, celebrated, and seen!

ADLO is answering the call—one strand at a time!

Members of Alpha Delta Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® rolled up their sleeves and transformed the Foster Love Project’s shopping center into a space for learning, empowerment, and love!

From relocating clothing racks, shoes, and shelving to creating a hands-on learning station complete with 16 mannequin heads featuring textured hair, our members worked together to prepare for Saturday’s Hair Care Workshop.

Led by Tamiah Bridgett-Alexander, this workshop will equip foster parents and caregivers with the knowledge, techniques, and confidence to properly care for the textured hair of children newly welcomed into their homes.

Because hair care is about so much more than styling. It’s about identity, cultural understanding, self-esteem, and helping every child feel beautiful in their own skin.

Champions don’t just recognize a need. We show up, put in the work, and help create solutions!

We’re proud to partner with the Foster Love Project to help bridge the gap between compassion and culturally competent care.

Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and beautifully themselves.

Next Friday and Saturday, October 23–24, we’ll welcome the world premiere of WITH OURSELVES, WITH EACH OTHER (WOWEO) at KST. At last Monday’s dinner, Maree shared how the work came together, and we had a chance to dive deeper into some of the themes behind WOWEO with Kelly Hughes, Founder & Executive Director of Foster Love Project @fosterloveproject. Lots to reflect on arts as a healing tool, adoption experience, foster care, and how we can all contribute to a community of care.⁠

The call has been made, and ADLO is answering—with service that starts by understanding the need. 💗💚

Members of Alpha Delta Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated recently toured the @fosterloveproject to learn firsthand how this incredible organization supports children in foster and kinship care, as well as the caregivers who welcome them into their homes.

During our visit, we saw how families are able to “shop” for the essentials they need—from new everyday clothing and sneakers to hair care products, books, school supplies, food, caregiver essentials and more.

We especially appreciated the intentionality and inclusivity behind the resources available. Representation matters, and we were excited to see hair care products specifically available to meet the needs of Black children and caregivers. 💕

We also learned how Foster Love Project’s model has evolved since the pandemic, with the organization now distributing primarily new items provided through donations and sponsorships, while continuing to offer select gently used items.

Most importantly, our tour helped us understand not only WHAT is needed, but HOW families access these resources, how frequently they are served and which items are consistently in greatest demand. As we toured, our members took note of the items that require the most frequent replenishment and identified opportunities where ADLO can help procure needed resources, fill gaps and strengthen Foster Love Project’s ability to keep essential items available for families.

As we begin our partnership through AKA Foster the Future, we’re answering the call by learning how to show up with intention, prepared to meet real needs and make meaningful impact.

Our first opportunity to put that knowledge into action is approaching as we support Foster Love Project’s Annual Hair Care Workshop in Wilkinsburg.

Champions of Service don’t just show up—we learn, we prepare, we identify the need, and we answer the call. 💗💚

Their work has provided resources to more than 4,000 children and served 600 families throughout the Pittsburgh region.

Through AKA Foster the Future, the signature program of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, we are excited to begin our partnership by supporting Foster Love Project’s upcoming Annual Hair Care Workshop in Wilkinsburg.

Together, we are championing service and helping children and families move from here to hope.

Tomorrow, I step onto one of the biggest stages of my career. 🙏🏾

CASA Conference 2026.

And this one means something different.

I entered the foster care system at just 7 years old. I know what it feels like to be the child whose life is being discussed in rooms he isn’t in. I know what it feels like to navigate a system you’re too young to fully understand and eventually age out at 18.

But tomorrow, the little boy who once lived in the system gets to stand in front of a room filled with people who work within the system—advocates, leaders, professionals, and individuals who have dedicated themselves to serving children and families.

That is FULL CIRCLE. ❤️

Tomorrow, I won't just be speaking from a textbook, statistics, or theory. I'll be bringing lived experience to the stage.

My workshop, “Advocacy That Heals: Leading With Heart & Connection,” represents so much of what my journey has become—taking what I experienced and using it to help strengthen the very people who are now standing in the gap for children like I once was.

There was a time when foster care was simply part of my story.

Today, it has become part of my purpose.

Every painful chapter. Every unanswered question. Every moment I wondered why my life had to look the way it did—it all gave me a perspective that I now have the responsibility to use.

Tomorrow isn't just another speaking engagement for me.

It's the 7-year-old me finally getting a seat at the table.

And I'm walking onto that stage carrying every foster child who deserves to be heard, understood, protected, connected, and reminded that their current circumstances do not determine the rest of their story.

From lived experience to leadership. From foster youth to advocate. From surviving the system to helping influence the people serving within it.

Tomorrow, we make an impact. 🙏🏾👑

Thank you to everyone who gave back during our July Community Service Project for @FosterLoveProject! We recently delivered a trunk load of toys, children's clothes, and other essentials to their facility in Wilkinsburg.

These items will go straight to helping families in our community. Thank you to our patients and team for showing up. 🧸
