A 2-hour-break from the kennel AND the shelter environment could mean the WORLD to the pups 🌏

Drako got to sniff real grass, go for a nice walk and enjoy one-on-one attention.

Dogs at the shelter stay confined for 23.5 hours, DAYS or WEEKS in their kennels. A 2-hour-break is like a GIFT for them.

And no, you don't need to feel bad when bringing them back to the shelter. You gave them a moment where they could just be a.. "free" dog.
Then comes the question: which dog from the shelter can you give a wonderful moment like this to next? ✨️

____

➡️ How to take dogs from the shelter for this 2-hour outing?
You just need to be an approved LAAS foster.

Not a foster yet? Google “LAAS Fostering” or https://www.laanimalservices.com/about-fostering

👤 Apply in person: You can fill out the application online to speed things up, but you’ll need to complete the process in person at one of the LAAS shelters. Bring an ID.
🐕 35+ lbs & fixed: These outings are for dogs 35+ lbs who are already spayed/neutered—not puppies or small dogs. Exceptions may apply.
⏰ 8–10 AM: Hangouts are currently limited to the morning because of the summer heat (subject to change since the weather is cooling down).

*2 types of fostering available for LAAS-approved fosters: this day outing or an in-home foster.

LAAS shelter locations:
• West Valley
• East Valley
• North Central
• West Los Angeles
• Chesterfield Square / South LA
• Harbor/ San Pedro

The shelter can be a tough environment for any dog, especially for seniors.

Senior dogs can make wonderful companions for a slower-paced lifestyle, offering a special kind of calm that only they know.

They may be older, but they still have so much love to give ❤️

A special thank you to Monić @soundhealher.mo for giving our pups a peaceful and beautiful sound-healing experience during their much-needed break from the kennels.

Come meet our senior dogs at the shelter!

UPDATE: Adopted to be rehomed!
Contact @spenserreich to meet him!

🆘Puppy Enzo must be adopted/rescued/fostered by WED 9/23

Staff described Enzo as a "cute little pup...will do fine with the right owner...needs training and will do just fine." But now he is out of time to find that perfect fit💔

Enzo was adopted as a puppy and surrendered to North Central 6 months later because his owner said he was trying to bite (made contact but did not break skin).

During intake and impound, staff said he did not show any signs of aggression. They were able to pet & scratch him without issue and he made no attempts to bite. They even said he appeared playful, social and showed no concerning behaviors during their evaluation❣️

The only thing they noted was the he was vocal while inside of his receiving crate.

Enzo was even called sweet and friendly during a recent grooming session ⭐

Enzo sits politely in his kennel, don't let that fool you because this guy has a ton of energy! He can be jumpy and mouthy and needs work on his impulse control. Enzo will greatly benefit from some obedience training to set him up for success in any home.

In playgroup Enzo is social, has a rough & rowdy playstyle and can be pushy.

He's looking for a leader to give him some structure and boundaries so that he can grow into the most polite boy possible 🩷We know he'll thrive in the hands of the right person!

We don't think Enzo should loose his life! Like any puppy, he needs someone willing to do the work.

Are you a lover of dog training and have an active lifestyle? If so, Enzo could be just the boy for you.

Visit North Central to MEET ENZO. We highly suggest you ask to spend time with him outdoors. If you aren't up for adopting, consider FOSTERING. Or SHARE ENZO or like/comment on his reel. Help us to get him seen 🙏

🐾 Meet Odie! He is out on foster through @laanimalservices and needs a Forever Home to truly be "safe"🐾

DM @shelterdogsofla__ for more info! See our link in bio for Odie's Amazon Wish List!

Odie's foster describes him as the sweetest, most loving guy who is happiest simply being by his person’s side 💕

Whether that means snuggling up in bed (he's the perfect size) hanging out around the house, or supervising while you carry in the groceries, Odie just wants to be part of whatever you’re doing. 💗

He’s potty trained and does great in his Crate! He may be a little hesitant to go in at first, but once he’s settled, he’s a champ.

Odie is also a curious little guy who is still discovering just how big and exciting the world can be. Walks and outdoor adventures are still pretty new to him, so he's working on his leash skills and learning that all the new sights, sounds, and smells aren’t so strange, they’re actually pretty cool!

More than anything, Odie is looking for someone who will give him the love, patience, and companionship he’s ready to give right back.

If you’re looking for a sweet sidekick who wants to be your little shadow, cuddle buddy, and partner in everyday life, Odie might just be your guy. 🥹🐾❤️

DM us to meet him or for more info! Or reach out to the shelter.

Can't adopt? You can still support Odie & his foster by purchasing an item from his Amazon wish list in our bio. Or SHARE Odie!

3 hours of volunteering in less than 60s 🐕

Many pups spend far too much time confined to their shelter kennels, and the stress can really take a toll. So volunteers play the role of taking them for walks, give them one-on-one attention and remind them that there’s more to life than four concrete walls.

For the scared ones, we approach gently and patiently, helping them adjust to this environment.

For those abandoned by their families, we can’t replace a forever home, but we're here for them like family.

Cookie #A2289912
6 months, 44lbs, female (spayed)

For those at risk of losing their lives, we give everything we can to advocate for them.
Currently on the Urgent List:

🆘️ Braxx #A2287691
3 yrs, 65lbs, male (neutered)

🆘️ Fox #A2280619
2 yrs, 61lbs, male (neutered)

🆘️ Maxwell #A2284407
11 months, 64lbs, male (neutered)

...plus 10+ pups also at risk 🆘️🆘️🆘️

The reality of shelter life can be harsh. But this is where volunteers come in—to advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves.

✨️ Apply to become a volunteer at your local shelter or North Central Animal Shelter! Link in BIO✨️

UPDATE 2: GINGER IS IN FOSTER 🎉
UPDATE: EUTHANASIA DEADLINE 9/30 WEDNESDAY

GINGER IS AT RISK 🆘️

SIX WEEKS. That’s how long Ginger has been at the shelter and already been added to the Urgent List (a step before euthanasia) due to behavioral decline in the shelter. Soon, she'll be given an euthanasia deadline 🆘️

Ginger arrived at the shelter with her ears cropped extremely short. A scar indicating she's been already failed once.
She was still wearing her (former) owner's tag, but no one ever came for her. Failed twice.

For weeks, Ginger was on a hold that prevented her from being walked, leaving her confined to her kennel with little human interaction or chance to decompress.

Yet despite everything, Ginger continues to show us what a sweet girl she is.

In playgroups, she's been described as "gentle, dainty, selective, steerable, bouts of play*"

Ginger has been failed by humans, but the right human can still change her story.
She deserves a chance to know what safety and care really mean.

Please SHARE. OFFER TO FOSTER. ADOPT. PLEDGE FOR RESCUE 🆘️

*BOP- usually a shy or more reserved dog and when they get comfortable they will play a little bit and then go back to being more reserved.

Y’all must be crazy!!! not one person has filled out an application for this perfect little man.
Myles came to us on the verge of death, he was starving, overheated, and had bloat. After three days at the hospital, he turned the corner and finally started feeling better. The amazing @fostermamaranko welcomed him into her home with her beautiful pack, and LOOK at him now. He has blossomed and turned into the cutest little Bulldog you could ever hope to see. Friendly, funny and sweet; this little man is waiting to meet you.
You can fill out an application for him on our website: loveleorescue.org

OVERLOOKED FOR FIVE MONTHS! Beautiful Misty now needs a miracle—must be adopted or rescued by EOD Tue 8/11 or she will be euthanized the next day at North Central Los Angeles Shelter.

She has TWO days—Sun(tmoro) and then Tue to find her hero—the shelter is closed Mon!!

She is a volunteer favorite, a playgroup regular, smart an playful and gorgeous—but due to kennel stress she is at risk of losing her life—she needs your shares, needs you hitting that repost button and tagging dog lovers and rescues.

Misty loves people and eagerly remembers all her human friends. She is two years old and enjoys a good play session while also chilling with her human for easy affection. This smart girl already knows sit, down, and shake— makes eye contact and participates in simple training games instead of begging for treats✨

She’s been in shelter playgroups—social, playful, & respectful with greetings. She’ll sometimes “demand bark” to get other dogs to play, but softens when corrected by them. As a young, energetic girl, she will thrive with continued socialization alongside tolerant, social dogs.🐾

Misty is in the prime of her life and has done nothing wrong. She is simply one more beautiful shepherd lost in an overcrowded shelter. She will make an excellent, loyal companion for an active person or family.

Please don’t let Misty’s story end this Tuesday. Help us give her the chance she deserves!

HOW YOU CAN HELP MISTY:

-ADOPT OR FOSTER: Visit North Central to save her life.
-PLEDGE: Comment below to help support rescue.
-SHARE: Every share & comment boosts the algorithm to find her human.
*DM US with any questions or interest in adopting or fostering her!

Update: RESCUED BY @whittierareadogrescue

Poncho #A2257858 is about to be euthanized at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This lovable 4-year-old German Shepherd urgently needs a foster or forever home before 8 am on Tuesday, August 4th, or he will lose his life. Poncho arrived as a surrender in February and nearly died a few months later after his new owner returned him for snapping when they tried to take away food he picked up during a walk. The adopter came back and said he would provide training and support. That never happened because his owner was arrested, and Poncho was placed on quarantine with no interaction or enrichment outside his kennel. Volunteers describe him as a gentle, affectionate boy who leans into every pet, enjoys back scratches, sits on command, and happily takes treats. Poncho has also done well in multiple playgroups, preferring the company of female dogs. Now he waits alone, hidden in the back where no one can see him, facing a death sentence because he was failed by the very humans who were supposed to protect him. Poncho cannot ask for the patience, compassion, and chance he so desperately needs. All he can do is hope someone finds him before it is too late. Please share, pledge, foster, or adopt if you can, and be there at 8 am to prevent this tragedy. Poncho is not ready to be forgotten, and his life is worth saving.
